Sage, PVR-350 and Linux

Hi All,

I am just in the research stage of my DVR project and have decided to go with Sage based on a lot of reading.

I am undecided, however, about whether to go with Linux or Windows. I am familiar with both. I like Linux more. I am also familiar with Gentoo.

Part of this also concerns the PVR-350 capture card and it's hardware decoding ability. I noticed on the Linux install page that it seemed to suggest that hardware decoding is not supported via tv-out. Is this true?

I plan on watching a lot of live TV using an old PC (about P3 1GHZ but I don't have the spare PC yet) and I figure I will need the hardware decoder to keep the CPU usage down.

Your thoughts are appreciated,
Rick

The PVR-350's hardware decoder/tv-out is currently not supported in SageTV on Linux. I highly recommend using a media extender if you want to use a low power server. We've ran servers as low as PII300 that work very well with extenders.
