Is there a standard DTV receiver with Digital audio and serial control?

I am in the process of dumping cable (just say no to Comporium) and putting DTV back in. I ordered (leased) 3 standard def receivers, which I'm assuming will be D11's from DTV but as I'm now finding out...USB bad, D10's good.

If I am going to buy my own receivers, is there an SD box that exists that has Digital audio (optical or coax doesn't matter) that is also serial controllable?

Also if there is such a legacy box, will my newly provided access cards work or do I have to track down manufacturer specific access cards for said box(s)

And for the Sage part, if I stream Digital audio into the sage box, will it record and play back true digital (5.1 and higher) when placeshifting, or will it just convert it down to stereo.

Thanks

I don't know of any consumer grade pvr cards that will let you capture digital audio. But yes, I have a Mitsubishi reciever that has serial control and optical output. It's an older receiver but I didn't have a problem switching a card to it - though I have since retired it in favor of another D10.
