HDTV Question

Quick question. I am looking to replace one of my TVs now to HDTV but I don't want to spend to much. I am looking at going with a CRT tube. So my quesiton is this, if you are looking at the specs of a TV and it says it does 1080i/540p, what happens when I use like a 720p signal? I that going to be upverted into 1080i? I ask because this TV is going to be used for my Xbox 360 which does 720p so I don't want it to look like crap if it is upverted.

Some TVs won't even accept a 720p signal. If you get one that is native 1080i, be sure it will in fact handle 720p.

I have 2 crt's that handle HDTV. I believe the take the 720P signal and downgrade the image to 540P. I believe if you google it, you will find info about it. It was a big to do for awhile that 1080i tv's would downgrade the 720P.

So actually heres what I am thinking of.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...927162?ie=UTF8

Costco has this for $500. Not bad at all. So like on this, it does 540p and 1080i while it reads all the other signals but 1080p. So like if I set my Xbox to 1080i, games are 720p, would the TV be showing 1080i? And the TV only has 800 lines so I'm confused on how it would look or what happens.
