Sage itself does not remove commercials. There are third-party customizations that will detect the commercials (ComSkip and ShowAnalyser) and a STVi to use the .txt file created by them to skip the commercials. The source .mpg files are not mofied.

You run a third party app like comskip or SA. They can process the file as the show is still recording. A txt file is generated that contains information as to where the commercials are in each show. Then when Sage reaches the commercials it automatically skips over them.

If you have a lot of spare time and patience (and Hauppauge PVR's) you can manually edit out the dreaded comms w/ "nanocosmos MPEG Tools." Actually cuts out any sections you tell it to and rewrites the mpg. I'd make more use of it evenings while i'm out of town, but Comcast doesn't give me enough upstream for Remote Desktop to make it useable.
