News blurb about Sage TV on Anandtech
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3257
Ahhh... Placeshifter Linux client and MAC version... So wonder we can't get any new features in the Windows version (ahem, play local CD's and DVD's)... Blah. Good for Frey, I guess. Probably will only sell about 100 MAC clients, though. Seems like a waste of development time for such a small audience. Jason Bottjen |

You can count me down for a mac client. I think you might only want to speak for yourself on that subject! there are many more people runing osx than linux
and i know for a fact there are a LOT of happy linux users out there. i am one of them thanks to my new copy of sagetv with gentoo linux! |

placeshifter is a java app, meaning most of it is cross platform. And it uses mplayer as the player, which does support OSX, so I assume making a mac placeshifter client is not costing them that much development time, no more so than making a linux version, which already existed. And there enough mac users interested to justify making one.

Not for Home Theater or PVR use....
Anyway, hopefully you are all right. Hopefully it didn't take a lot of additional time and hopefully it will actually be profitable for Frey. Because the downside is if it does take away development and support resources for very few users, then is hurts the vast majority of users. Jason Bottjen Quote:

I would say that placeshifter for OS X is a very smart move (and not very difficult as stated above). I would guess there are a fair number of people running sage to handle their media center/PVR need who also have a Mac as their personal and/or work computer. Myself being one of those people. Hmmm. . . Maybe a poll is in order to satisfy my curiousity. . .

I think Sage Jumping on the Mac bandwagon early is a great idea. I've said it before and i'll say it again, IMHO the Mac Mini is the perfect SageClient.

I guess as long as you don't need HDMI, Component Video, or SVideo outputs...
I guess you could always convert DVI to Component Video though. Jason Bottjen |

Why wouldn't you "convert" DVI to HDMI? No conversion needed, after all, just a different socket. That's what I do.

Judging by these two comments you dont have much of a clue about Apple's current Mac offerings. |
