Hello all- I haven't been to this site in a while. I'm running sagetv 2.2.8 and for the most part I'm happy with it. Would be be worthwhile to upgrade to the latest? I just I need convincing....

"for the most part I'm happy with it", what are you not happy with? Maybe it has been fixed or improved. It bears repeating, Upgrading to the lastest version is FREE, no charge, except for your time. |

I upgraded from 2.02 to 5. Things I liked: 1) watching a previously watch show resets the watched flag so the bar is green. 2)Visual feedback is better. For example, watched shows now have a "W" instead of just being italicized. It is much easier to determine what is watched. 3)You can set don't like or watched flags at the group folder level. For example, if you go to advanced(or the newer historical) airings for ShowX(a show you don't like), you can mark all 50 shows as don't like in one shot. This makes IR work better. 4)The TV Archive now has group functions similar to the recordgings view. 5)Front-end is refined. For example, changing the volume displays a tiny volume slider instead of entire OSD. 6)New weather module is cool. 7)Customizations. I added the IMDB search, Dynamic menu, Commericial skip, and DVDProfiler plugins. Now, commericials are reduced by about 90% or higher. I can easily move menus around to suit my taste. I can properly categorize my 500+ movies and no longer watch them in Windows Media player. In fact, with the weather module, I no longer even use MyHTPC. 8)Placeshifter is simply cool. In fact, it pretty much removes the need to purchase separate clients even for home use unless you have pretty advanced client needs. 9)The upgrade is just plain painless, so you can easily give it a whirl. My only problem was my Remote Wonder remote control that I use with Nielm's ATI plugin and I was the cause of that. Had I not changed a particular property many months ago, it would have been completely painless. 10) Many more, this is off the top of my head... Ultimately, there were many tweaks with Sage 5 that, IMO, puts it ahead of 2.x. Just make a copy of your install directory and give it a try. Worst case, reinstall 2 and restore your copy. And remember, its free! |

Thanks for the responses. I'll give V5 a try. It looks like Sage has come a long way since release 2. I just found out yesterday that my Meedio program was sold to Yahoo so this may be the time to switch completely over to Sage. I see that Sage practically does everything I have Meedio doing now (weather import, movietimes w/trailers, net radio). Perhaps it will work better than meedio
This placeshifter seems interesting. I wonder how practical it is to view shows, etc. from a hotel high-speed connection. I look forward to giving that a try. One question regarding upgrading, I'm using Cayars theme in V2.2.8. It doesn't looks like V5 supports that theme (at least from the searches I did in the forum). I'll downgrade to the standard one and then try an upgrade just ot be safe. Looks like I'll be doing my annual upgrade of the my media center after all brian

I also miss cayars stv but it pretty much can be recreated through adding various mods.
This thread for v4 pretty much holds true for v5. http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthr...ghlight=cayars |
