Sage Freezeing on my MVP

Ok, I am currently running the most recent trial version of Sage and I have an old MVP. My network setup includes a dlink DI-604 router plugged into my PC and connected to a Linksys 5 port 10/100 switch downstairs where my MVP is. Looking at my lights everything is running at 100 Full Duplex.

Here is my problem, I am able to watch recordings as well as live tv, however after a chunk of watching (it varies from a few min to 15-20 min) whatever I happen to be watching will freeze on the screen. If I let it sit for a while, it will eventually reboot Sage and come up to the main menu, however sometimes I have to power off the MVP to get it to restart.

My settings for recordings are at DVD Best on my Hauppauge 500 tuners, I have tried both the NVidia decoder as well as the Cyberlink and the default MVP ones, and there is no difference that I'm noticing. Are there some other settings I can try or any other solutions that anyone knows of, because the WAF is quickly going out the window the longer it takes to make this work. I still have time on my trial to mess around with things but I am definately frustrated.

Regards,
Brian

Load the Hauppauge Server software and try to watch some of the videos to see if the MVP is having an issue with heat. I have 2 MVP's and do not have this problem, they run for hours between soft power cycles and only have to cold power cycle once every several days. (They are working on this)

If you still have a freeze-up on this software then you may wish to look at replacing the MVP, look at the network or the PC sage is installed on.

BTW, the decodes do not affect the MVP playback, thay are for the PC playback only.

Ok, i'll try that tonight. and thanks for the info on the decoders, I thought that something about them might effect playback on the mvp, like maybe the Sage MVP client had a problem/issues with the different decoders. Anyway, i'll report back after i try the original Hauppauge software.

What is the version of your MVP that is having problems? The version D3 has a known defect in that a capacitor was installed backwards and as a result heats up the main chip enough for it to cause lockup problems. I believe Hauppauge has a procedure to get these units swapped out.

The Version I have is the D3a, does that one have a problem too? Last night I tried something else, I knocked the recording quality and the default quality down from Best (3.0 Gb/Hr) to Great (2.0 GB/Hr) and that seems to have made some difference, in watching live tv over the MVP we only had one studder where the screne went blank for a min and then came back a sec later. Is it possible that my network/MVP can't handle the ammount of information required for the higher quality recorings?

Form what I can tell from my MVPs, the D3a is the correct version, so you should be fine.
If dropping the quality down worked then you might want to check your network. Using a 100 Full Duplex switch should no be a problem but it looks like the SAGE PC is plugged into a router and then to the switch for the MVP?

SAGE-------ROUTER--------SWITCH-------MVP

If this is the case you weekest or slowest point would be the router. If you could add a 10/100 switch for the PC to MVP to keep it 100 mbps that may help. Then use one port of the new switch for the router so it can drop to 10 mbps.
