Using video-in on x800xt vivo

Hi
I'm totally new to SageTV and I'm currently using a trial version to see if it works with my htpc setup (and if I like it).
But so far I've been unable to make it work properly. My htpc has Radeon X800XT PE Vivo card and no other graphics or tuner cards. I live in Sweden, with no cable, so I got no use of a tuner card. I do all my recording with my satelite decoder connected to the video-in on the x800. Although I have a Hauppauge 250 laying around here somewhere.

The big problem is that SageTV hangs my whole computer every time I try to use the input. So I have only 1 try and then I have to reboot by pressing the power button for a couple of seconds. Sometimes I am able to reboot windows normally, but most of the time nothing happens when I try it.

At one and only one time I managed somehow to get a picture from the input during setup, but I don't know how and where, but a little further into the setup SageTV froze and I had to reboot. Never seen anything since.

SageTV does find the onboard Rage Theater chip and if I skip the test if it works, the setup finishes. I can then view pictures, listen to music and watch movies. But as soon as I try LiveTV...crash.

Am I doing something wrong or is SageTV just not compatible with my card?

I have tried to find some answers from this site and the forum, aswell as google, but found nothing relevant to my problem.

Thanks in advance

I suggest you try using your 250 instead & use its svideo input from your satellite box. Even if the vivo connection worked, the quality of the recordings will be much better fmor the 250 w/its hardware encoder.

re

Thanks for the reply, I'm sorry it took me so long time to respond, I didn't have time to try it until a couple of days ago.

With the 250 card everything worked immediately, but I would really like to use my x800xt. My htpc case isn't that big (m-atx) and adding another card blocks the airflow and also adds heat. I don't find the x800xt to be so bad at recording.

Btw doesn't the x800xt have hardware encoding too? It doesn't take much cpu at all when I'm recording, even with mpeg4.

So the question is, is the x800xt even supported as a capture card in SageTV, and if so, why doesn't it work?
