AOpen 6200 DV256 (AGP)
I'll create a new post specific to my problem with this card, and calls to folks who've dealt with it.
The Component out isn't working. In the Nvidia settings my only options for Video Output are Composite and SVideo. I've checked Nvidia's site and they say it's a BIOS issue, not a driver issue. And has been resolved. But AOpen does not have any BIOS updates for this card, so I'm unsure if that's the solution to this problem. I've contacted AOpen and a tech is looking at it, but with the 12 hour time difference, communication is rather slow, since we basically send 1 email per day. Has anyone gotten an AOpen Geforce 6 series card to work with Component out? If so, how so? TIA |

Wait, I just posted back on your other thread, but just remembered. Check out the forums over at HTPCNEWS.com under their video card forum. They have a sticky about component not being seen on 6200's. That might be your problem, or it might not be. Worth checking out at least. As I stated, my parents are using component out from a 6200 AGP (although they are just using the drivers that came with the card and I have never upgraded them).

I noticed that post and commented on it. From what I've seen it looks like Component out used to work on the Geforce 6 series with driver 78.01. Then Nvidia broke it with their next drivers and the solution was a BIOS update. Since I can't do the update, I'll try using the older drivers, and see how that works.
Your 5200 melted down? Funny, because mine did too! That's why I bought this one. There was no fan on mine, just a heatsink, which apparently, stopped sinking heat. |

Try this website, it is an archive of older drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html And YES fried. Totally tweaked me off becuase I had just bought my big screen when it happened! Oh well, I convinced my better half to let me upgrade our whole system to what it is today!

If you can't find a set of drivers on this website, I might also have the drivers that came with my parents 6200 here and I could try to get those to you since they seem to work. Kinda sucks that you will have limited upgrade possibilities for the future, but truthfully once you get something that works you don't want to mess with it. Obviously this isn't like your main rig, once it is up and running stable, who cares if you can tweak out a little more power by upgrading the vid drivers. Once stable....well you know what I mean.

I got it work using the new beta 91.31 drivers, within the new NVidia control panel. Component (HDTV) was an option, and I could select between various resolutions like 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i.
Although, honestly, I'm not sure there's much of a difference between it and SVideo. The wife didn't know I had changed anything at all. |

Eh, it is always hard to say how good the inputs are on your tv, so that is always a limitation. At least if you ever want to setup to HDTV, you will have all the options available for output (sure it will only be able to handle Overlay mode but still!).

Really? It can only handle overlay mode? Frankly, I'd settle for having progressive scan at the moment. But buying an HDTV is an investment I don't see occuring for at least another 5 or 6 years.
