How much data can sagetv handle?
I am curious to know how much data sagetv is stress tested with. I am also curious if it is tested with data on remote drives. My data looks like this:
Music = 400 Gb Movies = 60 Gb TV = 600 Gb If I import all of the directories for music which is on a different server, my system chokes and video stutters all over the place. When the seeker checks for partials or an EPG update occurs my WAF drops through the floor (and my CPU utilization goes throught the roof - 95 - 100%) ... Lately I have just been only importing about 150 Gb of the music and that keeps it kind of stable. Anyone else have issues with large amounts of data and can someone tell me what the limits are ?? Thanks...

You are already doing better than me on the music. I've never been able to import more than about 30 GB of music.
Music file handling in Sage simply stinks. In my opinion. I've never had anything but trouble with that. I gave up trying to use Sage for my music altogether. I know other have had stuttering issues what EPG updates, but I don't remember specific recommendations on how to fix. I've never seen that problem, personally. I have well over 600 GB of TV myself. |

If you are using the latest version, I would submit a bug report with details of your experience with those import dirs & so on.

I have a little over 1TB of Imported stuff on 3 different hard drives and have no trouble with it. All of it is on my server though, No networked storage and all of it is encoded to mpeg-4. Over 4000 video files and around 1500 MP3s.
I am begining to agree with the music handling accessment. But with tag ids not playback. I also have no issues with EPG updates.

Have you disabled the automatic import refresh from the properties file? Then you just manually refresh the directories when necessary (SETUP:REFRESH IMPORTED DIRs or something). The refreshing causes a lot of hd activity and is unnecessary IMHO. To me, it's much better to control when the hd goes nuts, not at a regular interval whenever it feels like it.
ALSO, I use sage in service mode, and when running the front end, make it above normal priority. I used to have some issues with EPG updates, etc.....Best thing to do there is to do EPG updates when its not being used and nothing "good" is being recorded (I like 8am). If the update time ever gets reset, just use the webserver to force an update whenever (it repeats in 24hr from the last one). Anyway, I don't have any stuttering problems anymore.
