Playback off new wireless extender

I would like to know if anyone has had a chance to evaluate practicality of the new wireless extender.

I have my clients on a Belkin Mimo which in theory should be over 100 mbps (I actually get around 70-80 mbps) and still could be choppy at times but much better than regular G that I had before. This extender would max out at the top speed of G. Based on my previous experience with computer clients, that is not really enough for an enjoyable experience. Of course, if you sit next door to your router it should be OK.

Please tell me it works since it will be a lot cheaper to add clients.

The MVP doesn't require as much bandwidth as the Sage client. As log as you can get a reliable 36Mbps connection from the MVP to the router, you will be fine.

your IP layer (LAN) speeds will be about 1/3 to 1/2 the reported air link bit rate, to 24Mbps or so max.

802.11b/g are 54Mbps max. The higher claimed speeds deviate from the 802.11 standards and only work if the client is the same manufacturer's product and a compatible vintage. FrameBursting is one technique they use, but the client must also support non-standard framebursting.

MIMO and 802.11n are all proprietary and non-standard at this point.
The 802.11n standard is still in draft form - so caveat emptor.

Lastly, a WDS repeater or range extender receives and retransmits the data frames. This delay usually halves the effective speed.
