Question Leave MVP on?

Is there any reason to turn off the MVP? The slow boot-up decreases the WAF, so I've been leaving it turned on. Is there any down side (other than the global warming caused by its power draw)?

Thanks!

What version of SageTV are you using? The newer versions put it into a soft power off state when you use the remote to turn it off. It restarts quite quickly from that state, as compared to a full power off. (You can turn it off completely by unplugging it.)

Hey Andy,

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm running V5.0.2.90.

Any idea what the discrete codes are for the MVP to go to sleep and awake? I'm using a JP1 remote (great WAF) so the family only pressed one button to turn everything on and one (different) button to turn everything off.

Thanks!

If you also have a Hauppauge remote for a PC tuner installation, the system & command codes are defined for each button in irremote.ini.

According to my ini file, the power button should be:

Old 34 button remote:
system 31
command 61

New 45 button remote:
system 30
command 61

A lot of stereo/home theater equipment has a code that turns it on and another code for off, distinct from the "power" code that acts as a toggle.

My remote uses these special codes so that there is an "ALL OFF" button that turns everything off, but doesn't turn anything back on that was off. Function buttons (watch tv, play dvd, etc.) turn on the proper equipment but don't things off that happened to be already on.

Does the MPV have these codes?

Thanks!

The "soft off" of version 5 is nice, but I use Nielm's dynamic menus and find that for some reason the menu is very very slow for the first few minutes after being turned on (wasn't like that before I added the plugin). After a few minutes of being on the menu becomes much faster, so I have stopped turning my MVP off just for this reason.
