Settings->Reload Media Player - gone

Every few days, I (and other users) have a problem where Sage fails to playback a recorded show - it starts out in slow-motion (video and audio). Sometimes the cure is to hit STOP and choose the show again. Most often, this does not cure the problem.

What always cures the problem is to "reload the media player" using a choice on the Settings menus.

HOWEVER, of late, often the choice for Reload Media Player is NOT displayed in the menu. Gone. Nada. To get it to reappear in the menu, some random set of actions having to do with playing/stopping/replaying programs or live TV is needed.

Why would it be removed (disabled) from the menu at all?

This is most frustrating - to be using Reload Media Player to overcome a bug in SageTV and then the work-aound doesn't work. WAF plummets.

Sage 4.

The option is there only when something is currently playing. If nothing is playing, there is no file to reload, since it isn't loaded to begin with. To reload a file with the current playback settings when nothing is playing, you just select something to play.

If you are using the latest version, I would submit a bug report w/details of what is happening.

On a sorta related note... hijack of sorts)

I often have to reload the player when watching live tv and changing channels. An automaitic reload of the media player after a time delay when changing channels would be nice to have until the media player problems work themselves out.

Is there a way to automatically reload the media player without going through the GUI? A CLI command that could be tied to an unused button would be ideal.

I am using the last version 4 release.
I and others have submitted bug reports on this (and see the mention in this thread too).

The response to the bug report was "load version 5 and see what happens".

Pretty lame. And suggestive that Sage is uninterested in reproducing and correcting the problem. The bug report pre-dates version 5's release.

What's lame about it? New development is continuing on the latest version, so if you are reporting a bug from an older version, the firt request is going to be to try the latest version to see if the problem is still there. If it is, continue to follow up on it. What seems quite simple & easily fixed to you could be something that is, in reality, hard to track down. If a change has been made that they think may resolve it, I doubt much will be done until a bug report is filed with test results for the latest version.

Why would that response be considered lame? It may be that the issue is corrected in 5 and they lost track of the fact that they corrected it. Sometimes in the changelogs it will just say many fixes. And why would they reproduce it and correct it in version 4? That's outdated. I think you owe it to yourself to check out 5 and confirm if it is or isn't fixed. If you're in the middle of playing a video and then change the decoder it will always give you the option to reload the media player. Before you reload change it back.
