Need a couple of questions answered before I purchase SageRecorder

Hello all,

As I mentioned in my other post, I just downloaded the trial version of this. It's GREAT! I just want to make sure of a couple minor details before I go ahead and purchase it.

I have the Adaptec Videoh! PCI (AVC-2010) which has the Conexant chipset on it.

1) What audio codec is used to encode the audio coming in? Does the card handle this with it's own hardware (I know the video is encoded on the card)? If the audio is being encoded in software via SageRecorder, is it possible to change the audio codec to something else, like TooLAME? I've found TooLAME has the best audio quality for mp2 audio.

2) Macrovision. I have a bunch of laserdiscs and pre-recorded VHS tapes that I would love to make archival backups of (which I'm pretty sure I'm legally allowed to do, so long as I don't distribute them). Will Macrovision be an issue? Does the hardware or software automatically defeat this when encoding?

Thanks for the assistance,

Chris

1) Its encoding the audio in the hardware

2) I'm not sure about this. I haven't heard of anyone having Macrovision problems with the Hauppauge cards, so you should be OK.

thanks!

Thanks for the quick replies! This is a great product with great support.

I tried a test tonight with Star Trek VI on VHS. It looked fine, so I'm sure Macrovision will not be an issue.

Good to know that audio is being encoded on the card. Just curious...do all cards have their own flavors of audio codecs? Any idea as to what Adaptec might be using?

Thanks again, and I'll be buying SageRecorder in the next day or so!

Chris

Just a comment about Macrovision. Laserdisc's never used Macrovision, so you should be fine with them. VHS tapes were mixed. Some used Macrovision, others didn't. It sounds like you might not have a problem anyway though.
