How many users can watch

Hello,

I am interested in SAGE placeshifter but wanted to know how
many users can watch. Currently I am using Windows Media Encoder 9
which allows 5 users and does a pretty good job.

Does the Placeshifter allow for infrared signals to change channels
on a cable box, satellite tv, etc, that are originated remotely
over the internet.

There's no preset limit, but I don't know how the transcoding server compares to WME9 in terms of resources. I'd guess it should be similar though, you'll only be limited by CPU power for transcoding.

The SageTV server handles all that, the placeshifter just asks the server to watch a channel and the server takes care of it.

Oh, and I'm not sure if you realize this, but the Placeshifter isn't a standalone app, it's a "client" that you run remotely which connects to a "full" SageTV server.
