Unhappy Sage not using AC3 Filter, even though it is selected?

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this, please feel free to move it if it is not.

I have installed AC3 Filter, and have it selected for both my AUDIO and DVD AUDIO decoder inside SageTV. However one odd thing is that when I click to select the decoder I wish to use, there are two entries for AC3Filter (neither work however).

When I play a recording or a DVD though, and open the AC3Filter control panel the levels are not moving at all, as if no stream is being decoded.

Is there a special way I need to get Sage and AC3 Filter to play nicely together? Is there a way I can ensure AC3Filter is being used?? I tried using Radlight Filter Manager to set it has the 'preferred' decoder, but no luck still...

When I use MS Media Player and play a DVD. I then go to Tools -> Options -> DVD -> Advanced Here I see the levels moving and can adjust them, etc....

Thanks, Im stumped!!!

Similar problem for me too

I am not sure when it happened as I upgraded to 5.02 and Sage Mce 16x9 STV but I can not get AC3 to work at all. If I select it sometimes it will play and crash and other time it will just crash SageTV and go to a windows report error screen. I tried uninstallinf the fileter and reinstalling it but no luck. Zoomplayer has no problems using it so I dont think the fillter dll is bad.
Is there an AC3 filter bug in the 5.02 realiease ? all other installed filter work just fine. I prefer Nvidia but it wont play HD files.(no audio)
Hope I didnt hijack the original posters questions but I thought it might be related.
Dave

judoGTI-Sage installs AC3 filter by default. This is probably why you're having the issue and see 2 instances.

davefred99-try deleting the sounds from the SageMCE STV. I think some users found an issue especially if they were using spdif.

Its not just in SageMCE even if I load the default STV it still crashes with AC3 filter enabled. I need AC3 filter because I do not believe the others can pass spdif DD5.1 audio from DVD files on my harddrive. I'll try some searching on the forum for AC3.

Almost any decoder you pay for and/or get the premium/platium whatever top of the line version will pass DD 5.1 over spdif. I'm using the nVidia PureVideo platinum over spdif.

I would just use the Nvida purvideo audio decoder but it wont play Ota HD audio for some reason. It seems to be a problem for a lot of users as I have read about it on several forums.
That is the only decoder I have paid for I have some others installed but they are deciders that are bundled with various hardare or Dvd purchases. Can the Sage Tv audio decoder pass DD 5.1 over spdif. Its hard for me to tell because I use an Nforce 2 motherboard and it will re-encode to DD 5.1 from a 2 channel source.

Problem solved

I resolved the problem by doing some internet searching and found out the latest AC3 download file(0.7b) on sourceforce has a bug and found a newer realease (1.1 Rc5) and just uninstalled and reinstalled . Everything works great now.

Gerry,

Thanks for the reply. Since Sage installs AC3Filter by default, how can I use the AC3Filter panel to adjust levels to my needs? My DVD audio is currently drastically lower than recorded shows that my DVD player is unusable.

I'd like to adjust the gain to compensate for this, but when watching recorded TV or DVDs through sage and I run the AC3 Filter it doesnt show any streams being decoded. (using the 'default' or either of the two AC3 Filter selections in the setup)

Thoughts? Thanks again.

I'm not sure how to fix the issue. You can access the AC3 filter control panel that Sage installs thru WMP. Tools-option-DVD-advanced. I think there were other threads that talked about the difference in volume.

Rad light filter manager will let you access the properties of your ac3 filter. Also if you select the same audio decoder for DVD and other media, it should have the same volume.

Yes, when I'm playing a recording or DVD in Sage, then go to Radlight Filter and punch up the AC3 filter properties it is not decoding any stream.

Same thing if I am playing a recording or DVD in Sage, I pull up Media Player -> Tools -> Options -> DVD -> Advanced still no stream decoding.

The ONLY time I ever see AC3 decoding a stream is if I am playing a DVD in Media Player and then go to Tools -> Options -> DVD -> Advanced

Is there a way to completely uninstall and reinstall AC3 so Sage can use it? I have also upgrade to Sage5 as the second poster mentions in this thread...

Im baffled and unhappy. And I'm almost on the verge of crying... But Im not..... yet.....
