Edit and Encode HDTV Files?
Anyone have any luck editing and/or re-encoding HDTV files. I like to put the shows on my Pocket Pc but when I try to work with the 5GB HDTV files I get errors no matter what encoding and/or splitting program I use.
I have no problem re-encoding the SDTV files down to a 150MB file but no program will allow me to shrink (re-encode) HDTV files - I just get errors. While I could record everything in SDTV - Sometimes I dont know if Im going to watch the prog on Computer or handheld so id be nice to be able to work with the HDTV files. Any one have better experience?? I've tried AutoGK, Stoik, Movie2mem card, Lathe, Dr. Divx and others |

I have encoded HD in the past, but only down to 1280x720 resolutions in XviD (plus keeping AC3 audio) to save space (2:1 to 3:1 compression depending on source) but never small enought for a PPC/iPod type device.

For me Sage 'HDTV' files are just mpeg files. Edit in VideoReDo or womble or whatever. Compress with DrDivx or any other tool that re-encode mpeg but like Kirby I've not had to compress that much.
One thing that might help is to provide more data than 'I receive errors'. Its easier to get help if the responder doesn't have to ask a lot of questions to find out what your problem is. Not that I have a clue, heh. peace . . . Quote:

What version of Sage? Are these .ts or mpeg files? What HD tuner card are you using to record them? You gotta come clean man!
Is it the size or the format he wonders. What happens if you try to re-encode a SMALL sample of an HD recording? Like 2-3 minutes. peace . . . Quote:
