3d acceleration makes UI slow and CPU usage...

An other 2.x to 5.02 upgrade question.
If I use the 3D acceleration option the Sage Ui becomes very slow. Is this expected?

Furthermore, I noticed an increase in CPU usage with Sage 5 independent from the 3D setting. It uses now more than 50%! Any thoughts?

What's your system? Sounds like you don't have a DX9 graphics card.

I'm having the same problem and did not have it before but I now use OVERLAY so my resources dropped from 60-90% down to 10.

Yes, I have the very latest DX9. I downloaded after having the new problems the latest DX9 and Java.

mike1961,
Do you have 3D acceleration switched on? Whenever I do that the Sage UI becomes unresponsive (slow). Did you change it to overlay in the video options?(default - overlay - DX9 choice)?
Do you have the hardware only disabled?

I've always had 3D acceleration on. But, Sage is not a problem as long as I'm in Overlay in the Detailed Setup, Video/Audio, Video Renderer = Overlay

When I switch from default to overaly I'm loosing the video in the Sage window on my control screen (secondary display). Why would that be?

Can we expect a fix for this 5x problem? All worked smooth on 2.x

If you don't have video on a secondary monitor for SageTV or SageTVClient, then you should look into updating your video card drivers or using a different decoder. Video can play perfectly fine on the secondary monitor using Overlay -- that's what I use all the time.

(The Placeshifter has an issue w/video on the secondary monitor at the moment, but I don't think that's part of the discussion here.)

Also, using 3D Acceleration can be slower on a secondary monitor because DirectX hardware acceleration is only on the primary monitor.

Well, I didn't upgrade my ATI 9600 driver for a while, since everything worked fine. I'm uisng powerstrip on the main display for DVD. How easy is it to upgrade the driver? anything to watch out for?
Is Catalyst 6.4 a "good" driver?
Do I get away upgrading the driver only:

I upgraded to the catalyst 6.4 driver (using the link from before).
No luck. With overlay still no video on the secondary screen.

The upgrade went rather easy. But I checked the driver version in the advanced tab: 8.241.000 (March 06). If I look in the driver details I find a lot of older 6.x files. Is this expected?

What version of Java are you running? The 1.5 versions have memory leaks that cause Sage to come to a crawl when using VMR9.

well it's odd it only happens if I run it full Screen, but if I run sage in window mode in a small manner it's very fast.

I don't know if it is your problem or not. All I can tell you is that there is a well known memory leak with the v1.5 releases of java. If you do a search you'll find plenty of information about it. Both Sage and Sun have acknowledged the problem. I don't recall which versions it affects because I've always just stuck with the version Sage recommends using since I assume they're not testing with java versions known to have problems.

With my GeforceFX5200 and PureVideo I was having awful CPU usage until i switched OFF of Overlay and went to VMR9.

After doing that my cpu hangs around 1%

Odd.
