sagetv and usbuirt

Hello:

I'm having a problem setting up my system. The usbuirt remote I purchased is only able to set up a remote to control sage tv. I am unable to program it in the capture card setup to control my stb. Sage seems to just hang after it asks for me to hold down the zero button.

I had to uninstall sagetv because I developed an audio hissing problem. I had previously setup sagetv to control the stb with my usbuirt with no problem. I also downloaded the usbuirt learner tool which easily programed using my stb remote and then was able to transmit a signal back to the remote.

The problem definitely seems to be sagetv. Any help is appreciated. Right now I can't use anything.

Do you try to learn the commands when running Sage as a service ? If so, try running it in non-service mode, I think this issue has been reported before ...

Hope this helps,
Dirk

how do you do that???

It is in service mode. How do you run it as a non-service??? I'm just doing the initial setup so there really aren't any options that I can see.

Thanks.

Hmm, are you sure you mean "service" mode and not "server" mode ? I might be wrong, but I think the initial setup does not setup Sage for service mode ...

Anyway, to change this you have to select "SageTVServiceControl.exe" from your Sage folder in the Windows start menu, this will allow you to switch between the modes ...

You should not use the USB-UIRT to control your STB. On my server, I have 4 serial cables controlling my 4 STB's (much more reliable than IR). I use the USB-UIRT to control my Sage Clients.

Not all STBs can be controlled via serial cable.

and if the usb uirt is setup properly it is just as reliable as a serial cable, just not as fast.

Wheemer - I would question that. I realize that IR is fairly reliable and to Blade I realize that not all STB's may be controlled by cable but I would certainly look hard to find out if there is one availabe that can.

I don't foresee speed being that much of an issue I mean to me changing channels is slow even with a serial cable because these days just chaning it on the box is slow but is as fast as the slow box.

My question is if you have say 4 STB's stacked on top of each other how to you effectively shielld the IR - perhaps it can be done but that to me is partly where your reliability comes into play.

Mike

It sounds like there's a problem with your existing .IR file. You can try to create a file under a different name and see if it takes.

I have repeatedly had problems with Sage learning ir codes with the USB-UIRT. Some of this may be the "service problem" but also my set top boxes all seem to use non-standard codes that a lot of software has trouble learning.

If you can capture the IR code in the USB-UIRT's lrnhelper program then it will be easy for you to create the .ir file manually rather than through Sage. you need the ir code in Philips Pronto format. This post:
http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...9&postcount=18
has details.

If you can't capture the code through the lrnhelper program then you will have to search the net for the codes or find some other way of capturing them (start with remotecentral.com). The codes in my digital cable's STB couldn't be captured by lrnhelper but were captured without problems with an old Philips Pronto and prontoedit:

Code:
OldStarhubUSBUIRT 37616 411 2 400 800
