Placeshifter can't handle DVD's in imported vids?

When I try to play a DVD from my server's hard drive through the Placeshifter client, I get "video type unsupported" error message. I have no trouble playing them via the regular SageTV client. Is this supposed to work in Placeshifter?

GTwannabe,
You can play them in the same manner as with a MVP (extender) by playing the VOB files. I never thought about it before but that is kind of strange since the placeshifter has not got the hardware decode limitation of the MVP. I guess I just took it for granted that they were using the same general code and therefore the placeshifter played VOB only.

But they do function in essentially the same way, that being the interface and playback happen on different machines.

It's pretty tricky (if not impossible) to stream a DVD since playback requires access to multiple files simultaneously, the VOBs for the audio/video data, and the IFOs for all the navigation info.

You are right. I just never thought about it before, and when I finally did, the first thing I thought of was a hardware VS software limitation.

I didn't even think about streaming being the root issue. Thanks.
