A few questions..

Okay, there are a few Placeshifter questions I have that aren't clearly addressed anywhere I have found.

First off, I own a license for the server, when I purchase a license for Placeshifter will I be able to install the Placeshifter client on multiple computers with the one license (only being able to use one at a time of course) or will I need to purchase a license for each computer? If I only need one, is it the same way with the SagTV Client?

Second, I have tried the SageTV client demo and like the results, can I expect the same quality with Placeshifter on a LAN connection as with SageTV Client? I realize I could download the Placeshifter demo and see for myself, but I am typing this before bed and hoping to wake up to an answer and take the easy way out :P

Third, Does Placeshifter offer the same features as SageTV Client?

And finally, does anyone have any issuies with Placeshifter they did not have with SagevTV Client that are worth noting?

Thanks guys.

A placeshifter license on the server is for a connection from any placeshifter client at any location; you can connect as many PS clients as you have PS licenses & the PS client can be installed on more than 1 computer.

SageTVClient is licensed for the single computer that it is installed on.

They use the same STV, so you get pretty much the same user interface, with a few exceptions for a PS client: the PS client doesn't have options for th various renderer & decoder filters like the client has, nor can the PS client play DVDs, and probably a few other differences.

Someone else asked about: Client vs Placeshifter.

Thanks for the info, very helpful.

I decided to download to trial to make absolute sure I want to purchase a license, however, why does the SageTV website say a 15 day trial, but the Placeshifter client say 7 day trial?

SageTV itself has a 15 day trial, but the extenders (MVP or Placeshifter) have a 7 day trial (Edit: It was later changed to 15 days). I don't remember whether that is stated on the web site anywhere.

http://www.sagetv.com/placeshifter.html

Acording to that it's a 15 day trial.

Doesn't even mention 7 days anywhere, even through the download link.

Not a big deal. I'm not complaining, 7 days is more then enough time for me, just pointing out inaccurate information.
