v5 and MCE Remote
I've searched pretty thoroughly and can't seem to find an exact answer to this question.
Should v5 let me use the Microsoft MCE remote driver (non-HIP supplied one) and have use of the "special" buttons like The Green Button? It seems everything is working, except the buttons are still activating their MCE counterparts also. Do I need to not be using Win MCE to get this to function right? I was previously using HIP with their custom driver (reinstalled MS driver and disabled HIP to try builtin support). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mike |

YES!
You can select MCE Remote as the remote control under the Detailed Setup -> Commands menu and then every button works just great now. The Green button takes you to the main menu. No need for Girder or HIP unless you want to change the default action of the button. I'm happy with the default mappings. I used to have the Info button mapped to the options menu, but I can get that by pressing the Clear button, so that is fine for me. The full MCE remote capability was added in one of the later 4.xx betas. I thought it would only work with the new MCE 2005 remotes, but it works perfectly with the old stlye MCE remote (which I actually like better since you don't have to mash down on the Channel or Volume buttons like the new MCE remotes). |

Thanks, but I don't think you caught what I was saying.
"It seems everything is working, except the buttons are still activating their MCE counterparts also." By that I mean, I have MCE Remote selected in Sage and I'm using the standard Microsoft drivers, however, when I hit the Green Button (or others like "Live TV") it performs the action in Sage AND launches Windows MCE to perform the action there too. Does anyone else have this problem? |

You need to stop and disable all of the MCE services and ehtray.exe. Look in Task Manager for ehtray.exe and in the services for any of the ehome or e-whatever stuff.

Is there a way to use the MCE Remote to wake up Sage when it is in sleep mode or if it is not in focus?

If I'm totally full of it, which is possible, then they could certainly support the "alternate" driver like HIP and Girder do, and let those button presses be completely configurable... |

BTW: SageTV is not controlling the MCE receiver directly & is responding to the Windows multimedia message that the driver sends, not the IR code that the receiver sees. Is it theoretically possible to respond differently to those types of Windows messages? Probably, but I don't know if there are any plans to do so.
You might be able to configure your system to send a different multimedia command for those events, but I don't really know if such things can be configured in Windows. - Andy

Am I reading this correctly, that your "Green Button" on your MCE remote takes you to the Main Menu in SageTV?

Is it true that only [currently] works with the default XML STV?

Gerr. Are you running MCE or a 'XP'? My old XP Pro build worked with the green button however with all the services disabled and the ehome bit not loaded it doesn't work in MCE ... need to go back and check the xml stv....

dagar - I found that I had to use SageTV3.xml to choose the MCE remote as the IR receiver, as that option wasn't available in the SageMC stv. Having chosen it I could switch to the SageMC stv and it worked correctly.
Using XP Home here. |

Yeah, weird. My prior system was an XP Prof SP2 and it worked fine. But not XP MCE.... Now it's MCE and doesn't work ... sigh
