registering Sage

I have used several different trial versions of Sage now, and I feel like I've settled on 2.2.8 as the one that I want to purchase, since it's got the most support, etc. Is there a way to purchase a license for that version still, and/or will a license that I purchase for v5 work on an older version?

also, anybody who wants to tell me why I'm crazy for sticking with that old version is free to respond!! I'd love to hear opinions on why I should get something else, in case there are things that I havn't thought of..

cheers,

-joe

All versions up through v5 use the same license. Edit: this is not true; see below!

I would use v5 instead of v2 for a number of reasons, among which are that v5 has many bugs fixed, you can use the built-in MVP & placeshifter support, and you can use Studio. Nearly all customizations are now developed for the latest version, since that is where Studio is available. You can't use the v4 or 5 STVs with v2.

Actually, V5 licenses will not work with older versions of the software.

Andy, thanks for the quick reply. Good to know that when I buy a license for v5, I'll be able to downgrade if I want/need.

I'd love to hear a couple of opinions (mods and users alike!) on stability of v5, as well as the overall happiness with UI and plugin options (comskip, etc), as compared to v2.2.8

cheers!

How do you figure? If you contact tech support with a problem in 2.2.8, the first thing they're going to tell you is to upgrade to v5 and see if it still happens.

hmm. Jeffrey, is there a way to allow new v5 users the option of downgrading? I'm definitely interested in all that v5 has to offer, but sometime being on the bleeding edge means a bit less support, plugins, etc. thanks!

Oops. Actually, you better make sure to see the reply from Narflex right after mine -- I was not aware that the licenses changed, since old licenses can still be used.

V5 is not a beta release, it is a stable, final release. You won't get "penalized" for going with V5; your experience will actually be much better. There are TONS of bug fixes and new features with V5, and all the STVs being developed are for V4/V5. V4 also included Studio, which lets anyone create a plugin, so the number of plugins available for V5 will be much greater than V2.

In essence, I don't see any reason to go use V2 over V5.
