REW/FF act different

Hi all,

I just got my new Media Extender earlier this week and got it talking to my Sage box just fine. Watching live TV or recordings is great. One thing I've noticed, though, is that FF and REW act different on the media extender than they do on my sage server.

On the server ff1 and rew1 jump 10sec for each time you press the buton. ff2 and rew2 jump, I think 1.5 minutes (or thereabout). This is what I've had all along and like it.

On the media extender if I press ff1 or rew1 it acts like a vcr and the video speeds up (going backwards or forwards depending on which button you pushed). Pushing ff2 or rew2 seems to jump about 10 seconds.

I'm using the same STV as the server so I'm not sure what's going on. Is this just how the media extender works?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

-Gary

The extender is just using the smooth FF/REW commands. You can easily reassign those buttons on the remote in Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Link Command.

Is there a command to allow me to skip an arbitrary number of minutes forwards or backwards. For example, in GBPVR pressing 1 then 6 then skip key would skip me 16 minutes, from the end of one period in hockey to next.

No, but if someone wanted to do some customizing in Studio, they could tap into the channel entry on the playback screen & then act accordingly when the FF or REW buttons are pressed. Or, they could add it to the TimeScroll feature.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the reply (sorry it's taken me this long to reply). I have to admit, though, that I've never ever done anything with the remote control commands, so when I looked in the Link Command section I was pretty confused.

I guess the one thing that'd get me over this hurdle would be knowing what the usual FF/REW commands are called? I saw the smooth FF/REW commands listed but am not sure what the old/original FF/REW commands are. If anyone can point me to either what they're called or a page that explains what all the commands are, I can try remapping the buttons.

Thanks again for any help.

-Gary

There is:

Skip FWD/Page Right
Skip BKWD/Page Left (BKWD might not be exactly correct but you get the idea)

Skip FWD #2
Skip BKWD #2

As you know from using the server each one is set to a different default amount of time, which can be changed. Skip FWD #2 is by default the longer of the two skips.
