USB2, NAS, or networked PC

Ok, it's time to add some storage. Initially I was just going to add a couple of USB externals to the existing HTPC, but maybe a NAS device would be better. So, reading about Stanger's Infrant device got me to thinking (always dangerous). would a NAS unit or a networked PC be the way to go. Do I need RAID ? About all I store is TV shows. Do you have to go with RAID using the Infrant unit ?

Using a networked PC also has the advantage of a possible second PVR with additional tuners.

So, what would you do ?

I looked at all of "the usual suspects" and decided on NASLite+ from www.serverelements.com. It's cheap, fast, reliable and runs on really low end hardware. For me this was, by far, the most cost effective solution.

For those who are using NASLite, do you record HDTV streams to the NAS boxe without issues?

thanks,

Can NASLite+ work with SATA hd's ? I've got a mb that can handle 2 SATA and 4 IDE. It would be nice to use all available.

Current V1.4 no, but upcoming V2.0 yes. Should be out shortly.

thanks,
I have recorded HD streams to a NASLite box without problems. However, I have recently had a problem with the NASLite box killing my ability to browse shares on my network. I've experienced spotty performance with Windows clients and total loss of network browsing with Linux clients.

This only relates to browsing the workgroup. All reads and writes to the shares work as normal.
