MediaMVP Not Working -- TFTP Timeout

I an trying to setup a Media Extender (MediaMVP v1.1.34) that I received today from Sage. I am running Sage 4.1.13.87. The MediaMVP shows a screen called 'Setup' and 'Loading Application' with 10 small progress boxes. It goes very quickly to box 8 and then hangs. I have repeated the shutdown, restart, verify IP a number of times with the same results. I have DCHP and the MediaMVP has an IP assigned. I have tried the following:

- Make sure no other MVP software is running
- Make sure the media entender server is enabled in SageTV (toggle the server option off & then back on to make sure the extender server is started)
- Make sure the firewall on your SageTV system isn't blocking it

The log file shows the following:

This might be trivial but I had to restart my server a couple of times before it would work.

Update: Hauppauge Server works fine

I installed the Hauppauge software and started (plugged in) the MediaMVP device. The MediaMVP device worked perfectly the first time. No Problems. It found the MediaMVP Server and loaded the application. I could play videos with excellent sound and clear video.

Whatever the problem is, it's a bug or wrong setting in Sage.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Unhappy Same thing

Jim-

I have the same exact problem. Support told me:

"We've been able to reproduce the specific problem and are actively working on the fix. I apologize for any inconvenience. "

Mitch-

That's interesting. The first response I got back from Support on Saturday was that I was the first complaint they've gotten since they provided a fix for a similar issue in 4.1.13. I have sent additional details to Support and believe (hope) they are working on it but not heard that officially.

Do you still have the problem? Are you using v4.1.14? How new is your MediaMVP device (mine is Model 86019 Rev H2 Lot 1306 -- the new version with the SPDIF connection)? Thanks.

I am having the TFTP Timeout issue as well. I have 2 MVP's, one is hardwired and one is using 2 linksys routers as a wireless bridge. I have been using Sage 4.0.0 and Matts MVP Plugin v1.30 with no problems. I recently upgraded Sage to 5.0.2 with 2 licenses for the MVPs. The hardwired mvp works just fine, however the MVP using the wireless bridge is getting the TFTP Timeout. I put in a support request a couple of days ago. I'll post anything I receive back from them.

I rolled back to Sage 4.0.0 and Matts MVP Plugin 1.30 and both MVP's are working fine again.

Has anyone heard back from support on this issue? I have only received an email stating that it was forwarded to the developers when I issued my support email.

My issue was an obscure one and was resolved. I am using 'Simple DNS Plus' as my DNS Server and DHCP Server running on a Win2K Server. The timeout was a DHCP issue. There was no compelling reason to use the software for DHCP so I switched that off and turned on DHCP in my Linksys router and the problem went away.

I'm using a linux server as my DHCP server, but I did try reverting back to my Linksys Router as the DHCP server with no luck, I may try it again. Its just strange that with Sage 4.0 and Matts MVP Plugin, DHCP on the Linux Server works just fine with the MVP.

not sure it will help you but I've had problems in the past if the mvp was not on the same network segment as the sagetv server. Are you using multiple switches/hubs in your setup?

The one that is not working is behind a wireless bridge created with 2 linksys routers. It is only not working with 5.0.2. 4.0 with Matts mvp plugin works fine. Due to the wireless bridge, cannot put it on the same segment. THey are all on the same ip subnet though, no routing being done.

Bobvoeh,

1. I would take the wireless link out of the equation just to see if your 2nd mvp works. If this solves the issue than you know the linksys bridge is not forwarding all the traffic.

2. If #1 fails or succeeds you could try the hauppauge software over the wireless bridge. if the original hauppauge software doesn't work over your wireless bridge it is unlikely that sagetv will. (make sure you turn off the sage media extender stuff before trying the orginal software)

3. upgrade sagetv. I noticed definate mvp improvement once i upgraded to 4.1.14

________

As I understand it when power is applied to the MVP it starts running its bootloader.

The bootloader broadcasts a DHCP request over the network to get it's networking info, the boot servers IP address, and the name of the software file to download.

After the DHCP response is received, the bootloader proceeds to tftp (download) its software from the boot server.

Once the MVP's bootloader completes the tftp it exits the bootloader and starts executing the software load.
________
Can you connect to the mvp over the wireless bridge?
to connect to the mediamvp
start->run->cmd
telnet your.mvp.ip.address.here
enter "root" to login
enter "env" for some info

You are not understanding my posts. BOTH MVP's work fine with 4.0 and Matts Plugin. Only the wireless one does not work with 5.02 and the extender license. DHCP works fine, bootp works fine with 4.0 and Matts Plugin. 5.0.2 is doing something different. AS soon as I roll back to 4.0 and Matts Plugin, BOTH MVP's work again. Something with the way 5.0.2 and the extender support does not work across this wireless bridge. I even put in a support request to Sage, but have not heard back from them other than to say that they forwarded it to the developers.

If DHCP and Bootp are proven to work across this bridge, what more does 5.0.2 need, I think Sage should be able to answer this, but nobody has.
