media extender trial not working

i just installed sagetv yesterday and i cannot get my mvp to see it. says no streaming server.

i go to the register media extender license and it says

"your media extender trial license has not been activated
You currently have 0 valid media extender licenses"

before i put down $100 i really want to see if this is a valid solution for me

Did you check the media extender info in the last couple pages of the v4.1 manual? Make sure no other MVP software is running, make sure the media entender server is enabled in SageTV (toggle the server option off & then back on to make sure the extender server is started), and make sure the firewall on your SageTV system isn't blocking it.

What SageTV version are you using? If you have a brand new MVP, you'll have to use the latest SageTV beta.

ok,
i am downloadign RC 4.1.14 and see if that does it.
if it doesnt i'll hunt more betas

yea i turned on teh media extender server.

so, with rc 4.1.14 my mvp reads that there is a streaming server and hangs on "contacting servers"

i couldnt find the 4.1.15 beta in the forums

I don't think there IS a 4.1.15 yet. Also make sure you have any windows firewalls disabled, or add the ports that Sage uses (you'll have to searc for that, not sure what they are offhand) to the firewall exception list.

yea windows firewall is off. i did add exceptions for it but i must be missing one cause it only works if the firewall is off

yea i entered these, but this is besides teh point that i cannot get my mvp to connect to the sagetv server with rc 4.1.14
it registers teh server but will nto connect

Oh -- I thought it was working when the firewall was off, so you just needed the ports list.

I'm not sure what is wrong, but if you list your network's details (the network has a DHCP server?), maybe someone will have an idea. There is no other MVP software running at all? You restarted SageTV after enabling the media extender server?

With a brand new MVP, you should contact SageTV in case there is still a problem getting it to work with the new model.

yea there is a dhcp server. the mvp works with the hauppage applications and gbpvr but i was dissapointed by both of those. i made sure that with sage tv running, that no other mvp software is running.
i not only restarted the service i restarted my pc numerous times

i did email sage tv support earlier today before posting on the forum, but no response yet.

I almost forgot to point this out too: you can get a log of what is happening on the server if you enable debug logging; see this FAQ entry.
