Problem importing

I'm just starting to play around with customizing Sage and I must be missing something with the import process.

I'm trying to install nielms dynamic menus without success. I downloaded the three files referenced in the instructions on the wiki and extracted them. In the C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV folder I see the SageMenu.DTD and a menu.XML file. In the C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\JARs Folder I see the sagemenureader and sageutls files and in the C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\STVs\SageTV3 I see the dynamic menu import.stvi file.

I then went to detailed setup\advanced, but I didn't see anything to import.

I know I probably missed something basic, but I don't see it.

Any help is appreciated,
Mbrew

If you're using a Sage STV that the file extension ends in .STV instead of .XML that could be one reason. If you're using SAGE_MC you may not see it at all. What STV are you using in your installation?

Did you scroll all the way down in the Advanced section? The "Import SageTV Application Package" may not be visible initially.

I can see the entry for changing the STV. My choices (were) ;SageTV3.XML SageTV.STV & Weathericons. I was using the XML and just selected the .STV and now my choices are SageTV.stv & Weathericons.

The entry for changing .STVI's, I think was just giving me a choice of Weather icons and now that I made the change above tells me that "STVi import packages may not be imported into this STV. Please make a copy of C:\ProgramFiles\... and set that copy as your Application Package before importing into it".

I made a copy of it and named it SageTV3A.stv and I don't see that either.

I'm fairly certain I'm doing something boneheadded.

My directory structure is C:\ Programfiles\Frey Technologies\SageTV.
Should I be creating another SageTV Folder in the first one? Everything I see refers to SageTV\SageTV.

Hi Mike,
I think the "Frey Tech..." is your problem. That is the old folder structure. It should be "Prog files/Sagetv/Sagetv". You probably should upgrade to a new beta and lose that.

Make sure the files are installed where SageTV is installed. I still use the original "Frey Technologies" location w/o any problems.

Also, make sure you are starting with the SageTV3.XML file, NOT SageTV3.stv. Since you've switched to the .stv file, you'll have to edit the properties file or open Studio & load the .xml file. Delete SageTV3.STV, or at least move it to some other location. It is no longer needed & is way out of date.

Actually, I did an uninstall/reinstall a while back, and it stayed that way. I may try again and make sure to delete the file. Anybody see any problem with just renaming it?

OK...Now we're getting somewhere. I don't know how this happened, but I had both a Frey\SageTV and a SageTV\SageTV Directory. I guess the second one was created during some upgrade or another. Sage was apparently using SageTV\SageTV and I'm unzipping stuff to Frey\SageTV. I'm not likely to make much progress this way.

I deleted SageTV.STV and made the following edit to the properties file to get the .xml file back: STV=C\:\\ProgramFiles\\SageTV\\SageTV\\STVs\\SageTV3\\SageTV3.xml. The first time I opened the program it still showed I was using SageTV3.stv (I don't know how 'cause I had deleted it). I closed the program and extracted the files to the proper directory, re-opened it and I was now using .XML and I could see the custom menu options. I haven't done anything with it yet, but I'm now able to open the dynamic menu stuff.

I appreciate the help. I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions as I play around with this more.
