Running OEM version on Centos

Hey Guys,

I have an Centos 4.2 Server on which I run asterisk (VoIP PBX). It has a PVR-250 in it and I would like to set it up as a network encoder so I purchased the OEM version and am in the process of working through the issues of getting Sage up and running.

Quick question - If you set it up in Server mode (installmode 0) how do you set up the the TV source and Server options, do I edit the Sage.Properties manually ?

If you can get a client to connect to the server you can do all the config from the client. Thats the beauty of the STV.

I'm thinking about doing this since ver 5 is significantly friendlier in terms of moving it to another linux distro. Are you still running ver 4? Is there any chance you would write up a bit on moving Sage to Centos?

A placeshifter client... there are directory path issues with a normal client

Has anyone tried to install Sagetv on Fedora?

I noticed MythDora offers a stripped down version of fedora core 4 iso
and was thinking this might save me sometime installing.

The windows path delimiter is not converted on the linux side. So you end up creating win32 directories on the linux side

Example

\video\storage\directory

instead of

/video/storage/directory

Once the win32 directories are created on the linux side, it can be painful to cleanup. Once I had to remove the sage server tree to remove the illegal directory path.

This also prevents one from creating library rules.

Fedora Core 5 x86 works for me, with the aforementioned caveat with client configuration.

FC x86_64 does not work as a recorder: My speculation is there are issues making calls into the 64 bit driver from 32 bit libraries. It does work if you only want to vend pre-recorded libraries.

Well, that was easy...

Sagetv running smoothly on fedora..
I took the easy way out and used the Mythdora distribution.
Just did'nt want to install ivtv drivers.. not fun..

so, with all the alternative os stuff in this thread, which OS would you all recommend for a Sage server? FC? Centos? Gentoo seems to suck generally. The install is brutal.

Everyone will have a different opinion when it comes to which linux O.S is the best. You will need to decide what favor of OS is to your liking.

As I mentioned in previous thread. I cheated, I installed Mythdora (Fedora Core 4) It had everything I needed, plus all the nonimportant packages were removed. After installing the linux O.S., I installed the Sage Server software and In 5 minutes I was up and running SageTV on my MediaMVP.
I did'nt need the Myth stuff, so I 'rpm -e' those packages..

AHHHH!! Now I understand.. Thats a brillant idea. I'll do it! Gentoo is smacking me around on the install and I'm looking for another way out.

Is Mythdora prefering Nvidia cards? Anything I need to know hardware wise before I do it? I've got a Supermicro p3tdlr with dual Piii's @ 750, 1 gig reg'd sdram, onboard ati rage xl (can add in a pci nvidia if i need to). OS will be on an ide drive and I'm planning on using evms for a 3 disk raid 5 software array totaling 745 gigs of useable space.

Nvidia and IVTV and Sagetv required packages already loaded.

I notice they now have a live cd, I have not tried it.
