Wmv playback
Anything special required for wmv playback... I was certain that I had this working before.
But I just tried to play a wmv back and it exited sage completely. I tried with another file and it gave a sage playback error. |

This problem is still here...
I guess Sage must not support playing back wmv. It's baffling that most media players can play anything if the codec is installed, but with sage it a whole different story... |

I know it was in there, but I haven't tried lately.

Worked for me when I tried it just now in 5.0.2 (using non-DRM WMV from Rocketboom). There have been some recent fixes regarding playback errors so if you're not using 5.0.2 you might give it a try.

Yes I am running the latest version...
The error I get when I attempt to playback a non drm wmv is: The was a Playback Error in playback. Details: sage.PlaybackExecption: ERROR (-4,0 x8007007e): There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback. These error messages are pretty useless though. They are worded incorectly and offer zero useful information to the average user. |

8007007e is a "module not found" error, so at a guess I'd say that some codec or rendering component is not installed properly or not where Sage is expecting to find it. But that's just a guess.

I ensured that wmv playback is fine in windows media player... perhaps there is something else I need to double check?

And you are running Windows Media Player 9 or 10? You should be running 10. And make sure ffdshow is NOT installed.

Was there ever a solution to this. I recently started archiving my shows to wmv...but I am unable to play them on my client PC. I am able to stream them using Nielm's web server and they play fine... but will not play in the SageClient.
I too am getting this error. sage.PlaybackExecption: ERROR (-4,0 x8007007e): There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback. I am using Sage 5.02. Last edited by nyplayer; 05-26-2006 at 06:09 PM. |

It's the same error for me still with 5.0.3
I just filed a bug report, I'll let you know what they say. |

This is the response I got back from SageTV.
WMV files need to be access via UNC paths or mapped drives when played back through SageTVClient. I tested this and it worked. |

Glad it worked for you... my imprted videos are already mapped with unc paths. And it seems as if perhaps support is ignoring my request.

I found a couple other issues that can generate this error.
a) There is are a number of bug and security issues in the Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) version 3.0 - SP3. b) The error 0x8007007E can also be caused by missing or corrupt dynamic link library (.DLL) files - CABINET.DLL and URLMON.DLL. For A if you have MSXML installed for whatever reason make sure it is MSXML 4.0 sp2 found here: MSXML 4 Then reinstall. For B try this: Scan For Missing/Corrupt System Files... Windows XP comes with a wonderful tool called System File Checker (SFC) It scans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer... However it can sometimes miss a problem, so we can run the tool now to replace CABINET.DLL and URLMON.DLL if there is a problem with them: To Do This: Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon. In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button. In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following command: SFC /scannow and then click OK You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run SFC.. I guess it is worth a shot. It ain't fixing itself. Gerry

Wheemer ,
Any videos that were in the folder before you made the paths UNC will not work they will still appear as local. What I did was create a UNC path from scratch shared it etc... Added it to Sagetv as an imoport folder using specify as UNC. I then closed Sage down and moved the files to the new folder. Restarted Sage and all is well. |

WMV playback works perfectly fine in every single program I have tried, except Sage.
My system is working perfect, I do not have missing dlls, or any missing files for that matter. These imported media folders have always been UNC paths. Sage support hasn't offered any usable solutions either. For now I am putting this on the back burner, as I don't think the payoff is worth all the hassles. |
