MVP PC performance impact?
Love sageTV, and so does my wife (which is a great testament to the maturity of sageTV).
While using MVP to watch stuff on the TV, I'm I still able to use my PC to do other stuff or does MVP just display whats on the PC screen? I'm a little unsure of what MVP is actually doing. I think its kind of behaving like a client, but I also read somewhere that the PC has to do some of the drawing so I'm confused. I'm hoping I can find an MVP somewhere in Canada and then I guess purchase the sageTV MVP licience seperately. Currently using TV out on my PC to connect to the TV (50' S-Video cable). Some moderate quality issues due to either poor S-Video soldering job (I splited 2 25' cables together) or perhaps just poor quality S-Video out on the ATI card. It works, but I can't do stuff on my PC while using it to watch TV on the living room TV. |

You can find MVPs at NCIX (www.ncix.com), a canadian online store.
Basically the way the MVP works is that it runs a pseudo-client on the server and sends the display to the MVP. But you don't see anything on the server, the display is hidden. So basically the server does all the work and sends the display to the MVP. I myself find the MVPs great. I replaced 2 client PCs with MVPs, and found that the quality of the MVPs is better than the PCs I was using (was using svideo). |

SageTV's built-in MVP support runs completely on the MVP (it draws its own UI and plays mpg2 video via its hardware decoder), except for when you are playing media that needs to be transcoded to the mpg2 format that the MVP supports. Like any client, it gets all of its info from the server, but unless you are using transcoded media playback, the cpu usage on the server is minimal.

Thanks guys
Ya I seen NCIX. I'm just enquiring if they have any left in stock. There site indicates low quantity and thier checkout implies there might not be any left. I'd rather not end up being forced to wait for a back order through them - we'll see.
Sounds like the MVP is just what i need. |

MVP works great. the response time is slow for certain actions (EPG, recorded shows) but it's usable. It responds instantly on Play/pause FF/REW what is the most important.
I have a small issue: the picture in cropped at the left side. But it does not disturb a lot.
