For right now I have a HD-DVD on pre-order. This will be the first time I will have a non-htpc dvd player on my main tv in 3 years

In a couple of months I think, NEC has announced a drive, and I believe Samsung and Pioneer may have announced Blu-ray drives.

I believe there are BD burners announced, a Pioneer specifically.

I think it's about $500 for readers, $1000 for writers.

Don't expect to play them on a PC without Vista. And I wouldn't buy an HD-DVD (or Blu-ray) drive until someone has proven they play commercial, copy-protected discs. I've seen nothing that states the first discs will be usable with AACS protected content.
