TV freezes and Sage hangs startup
OK, I've got a couple of problems I thing are related.
I've been working to get Sagetv to work on the following configuration: Celeron 2.4 Ghz 512 MB RAM Hauppauge 150 wint WinTV PNY 128 MB VRAM video card w/ S-video TV out 802.11g wireless connection Directv w/ serial connection to change channels using wireless mouse and keyboard to control sage and computer 2 HD, 40 GB (with ~6 GB free) and brand new 200 GB (100 GB partition, 64k sector formatted) I've been using the 15 day trial (7 days left) so I can convince the family this is a good thing (I've been increasingly frustrated with Directv Tivo). My first problem is that sage will run for about 2-4 hours, then freeze. The tv picture freezes and sometime I can't even get the menus to come up. The application has a slow response time even when I first start, but the longer it runs, the slower it gets. I've never seen it lock up, it usually happens when I leave it on over night. It seems like the more stuff it records for time ship purposes, the slower the response time. Any ideas for setting tweaks? Secondly, the last time it did this, I tried to restart Sage and it wouldn't come up even after 20 minutes. It was hung on the splash window saying "Waiting for Sagetv to finish initiation". I rebooted the machine and as Sagetv was loading, it hung again this time at "upper interface manager is initializing". This is a problem because I have Sage set to start full screen when Windows starts. Does anyone have any ideas how to rectify this/these errors? I've done some searching through the forums, but I haven't found any helpful tips. Thanks for any help, suggestions, or pointers you all can give me! Craig |

What's your video card-nVidia or ATI based? Are you running Windows XP SP2? Did you install DirectX 9? What version of Java? The one that comes with Sage? Any other versions installed? Clean up the drive your OS is loaded on and get your self more free drive spacee-you say 2 HD 40GB w/6 free. I'm thinking you might have 3GB or less free on your OS drive.

Don't know about the video card off the top of my head.
Directx 9 is installed Java 1.5 is installed (when I told it to update, it told me it was at the latest and greatest) XP sp2 1 HD may indeed have less than 6 GB, I will check that. Although I told sage to use the 100 GB second drive... OS and HD probably needs to be cleaned out.... |

Find out what the video card is and make sure it has the latest drivers. Make sure to uninstall any previous versions of java. Java tends to leave the previous version in place. And clean up what you can.
