BTW: for the file browser issue w/java 1.4, I'll provide an STV that doesn't sort by directory vs. file (list dirs first) later tonight. Then, we can find a real fix for the sorting issue for the next release.

So, if I download the setup and run it, then what happens to any plug ins or customizations that I have on my current system?

I am running sage TV V4.1.5.74...

JAVA version 1.5.0_06

Current STV file :SAGETV3-2.xml (Version 4.1.3.2 Dec 20, 2005)

See: How to install a new version of SageTV.

As part of that info, item #6 mentions re-applying your customizations. Your customized STV and the imports are not affected, but the new default STV will not have your customizations. Likewise, your custom STV will not have any fixes/changes in the default STV.

Cool, aspect ratio adjustments, finally can get rid of the black borders. Can now play Divx/Xvid over lan too. It's getting closer and closer to regular client.

While I appreciate the talent required to make good looking icons...I put the old (4.1.11 and previous) .png's into .12

Upgrade went fine, testing now.

The first post of this thread now has an attachment containing a replacement SageTV3.xml STV - version 4.1.12.1a. If you are using java v1.4, this version should let you use the file browser (such as for STV or STVi Import selection), including listing the directories first.

If you are using java v1.4, please give this STV a try & report your results.

If you are using java v1.5, you do not need the updated STV.

The audio st-st-stutter on channel change seems to be fixed. I channel uped, previous channeled, and bounced around with JB's MiniGuide...didn't get a single stutter.

Looks like that fixed it. Imports worked fine.

OT.

What is the difference between Java 1.4, 5.0, and 6.0? I have all of these installed on my system.

Why is it so hard to find Java 1.5 to install? Will 1.5 eventually be included as part of the SageTV install?

OT.

1.5.0_06b05 is what gets installed when you go to java.com. I havn't had any problems with it. Whatever one you decide to use, I'd get rid of the other installs just for cleanliness You could also go to the Java console in the control panel, and update from there.

Its not that Java 1.5 is hard to find. AFAIK, 1.5=5.0 in Javaspeak. Don't know about 6.0.

The reason I inquired about if I should upgrade to 1.5 was that Sage states it requires "Java Runtime Environment 1.4 or higher available freely from Sun Microsystems. ". And the last I heard, 1.4 is what is bundled in the install packages. So, you would think that they design with 1.4 in mind.

However, 2 or 3 bugs lately have slipped by with 1.4 not being compatable. So, if the programmers are using 1.5 in designing, then unfortunately more of these bugs could pop up when there is a coding dfference between 1.4 and 1.5.

It seems that the best best will be to upgrade to 1.5 and let all the other guys on those occasional 1.4 issues.

So I should uninstall 5.0 and 6.0, and then run the Java Console and update to 1.5?

Hmm...after removing 5 and 6, then doing an update on 1.4, it wants me to install both 1.5 and 5.0...

You can click on the java icon in the system tray and tell it not to check for updates. That will get rid of the update nags.

Can I ask what this release note is to do with?

Quote:
1. Updated MVP kernel to deal with regressive loading issues
Will this fix the occasional problem when re-connecting the MVP to the server?
I am still having an intermittent issue when rebooting the MVP or the sage server: 90% of the time it re-connects fine; occasionally though it will crash in loading (black screen high, high pitch screech).

Java upgrades

I was having unrelated java issues with a network encoder I am beta testing, and thought I would pass this on. In order to make things work in Java, the only way I could do it was uninstall ALL java versions on both machines, and download the latest java installer from sun.com. If anyone is having issues with Java, I suggest you do this to upgrade, rather than just allowing Java to update itself. It seems to be brain dead in this department.

FF/RW Freeze Seems Fixed Too

Up to 4.1.11, if I FF'd through a commercial, ocassionally the video would freeze with the audio still playing...crashing the video (but not Sage). I havn't seen this yet. I'm liking this build so far.

FYI, Java 1.5 is now bundled with the SageTV installer (it has been for a few versions).
