Placeshifting HD material
Is it possible to transcode via the place shifter HDTV files -- or am I limited to SD material only. I understand that there will be extensive quality loss but in some cases I only have a particular show in HD.

Yes, but in my experience you will need a hoss of a computer to get reasonable playback ( I heard 3.0 Gig as a min-I have a 2.4 that doesn't cut it even overclocked to 2.7) especially if you are going to use the server at the same time. Problem is not encoding, it is decoding, since you have no hardware acceleration.
