SageTV client or MVP via Internet with Hamachi

I tried the SageTV client today with my friend who was connected to my lan via Hamachi. It didn't work. She could ping the PC that SageTV was running on, we disabled the windows firewall on both PC's, but it did not work. I wonder if the MVP would work, and I wonder why the SageTV client doesn't work.

I would really like for her to be able to use the client to connect to by SageTV. I have used ORB, and thought about the Slingmedia box, but...

Has anyone had any luck across the Internet using Hamchi or another tunnel?

If you both have really fast connections, you could try what this guy did:

If your connections are just regular dsl or cable internet with limited upload speed, then Placeshifter will do what Orb or Slingbox does:
