DVD Playback Error

I have Sage v4.1.3.67 and the nvidia decoder installed.

I have been using Sage for a few months now and have not had any problems. Today was actually the first time I have tried to play a DVD.

When I play a DVD, I get this error:

There was a playback error in playback.
Details:
sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-1,0x0):
There was an problem using DirectX for
playback. Please install the latest version of
DirectX. If you already have it installed, please
reinstall it.

I did have the latest version of DirectX but I reinstalled it anyways. Same problem. My DVD decoder setting is set to nvidia and the audio decoder is set to default. I have verified these settings in the client properties file as well. I have tried using different settings but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Do you have SP2 installed for XP? There is also a later beta with more fixes, but this wasn't an issue at all before.

Yes, I do have XP SP2.

Maybe I'll try the latest beta but I don't really want to use a beta since this is my primary and only PVR.

Does anyone know what the latest official STV release is and where I can download it?

I'm now getting the same error, but oddly, only after playing back other shows. If I reboot and go straight to the DVD (through Sage), it plays. Is your error similar, or do you get the error even after rebooting?

This problem happens all the time. Rebooting or playing other shows does not seem to help.

try to play an mpeg2 file in windows media player and see what codec it is reporting to be used for video playback. (while you're playing the file, just click on file properties) If its any codec other than nvidia, then you may have to unregister that codec.

it uses the MPEG Audio Decoder and the SageTV MPEG Video Decoder.

How does one go about unregistering these codecs?

Make sure you have set nVidia as the decoder in Detail Settings-DVD. It sounds like you're trying to use the Sage decoder for the DVD and that won't work. You set the video decoders both in Video and DVD settings.

That was the first thing that I checked. I have tried every possible combination of settings in the DVD setting page. Nothing works.

try setting the dvd -> audio to the nvidia codec as well. Also make sure the audio renderer is set to your audio card. Sometimes just leaving things as default doesnt work. Also, you may want to try a software program called dsfilter manager to check and make sure that the nvidia video and audio codecs are registered properly.

OK, I know this sounds silly, but when I have unexplained problems with codecs in windows, what i've found works the best is to just uninstall any programs that have installed codecs on your system and reinstall only the ones you need. Something sounds screwed up with the way your codecs are registered. And if youre going to use the nvidia codec with sage, make sure you install it last so that it makes itself the preferred codec for directshow.
