The Guide and the Play Button / Command
A while back (during 3.x beta evolution I believe) Sage added a popup dialog when selecting a channel from the Guide. In the old days, it simply went to that channel for viewing if not conflicting with a scheduled recording in progress.
Some debate about the virtues of new vs. old transpired but someone said that by just hitting the "Play" button the dialog box would be bypassed and Sage would just simply go to that channel. Also, it was stated that using the "Delete" command can be used to bypass the newer though cumbersome delete dialog box(s). The straight "Delete" command does work nice when deleting a lot of recordings and side stepping a dialog box (confirmation box still present as is right and proper). Well, the "Play" button thing does not work that way for me. Issueing a play command does nothing (since already playing on current channel). Can anyone tell me what I missed in that conversation and, to the point, if there is a shortcut around changing channels when navigating with the Guide to avoid the dialog popup (Watch now?) and just do it to it? Well, that's about what I thought. It's only a one shot deal when nothing is already playing. As far as the "Play" command is concerned for continued navigation and channel surfing live TV, it's a non-starter.
This begs for an STVi import, me thinks. I use the discreet Play and Pause SendMessage commands. I see no reason that the Play command can not have dual purpose function within the Guide: if highlighting a different channel in the Guide and in the correct time bracket, just go to it and bypass the dialog box that otherwise appears if using the "Select" command. I hate that box when just wanting to hunt around a little; I can't be the only one DFA

Based on the enormous and overwelming response from fellow members, I guess I am the only one!

Have you tried hitting the stop button before the play button? I find that when the play button does not do what I expect, I just have to hit the stop and then play does what I expected.
