USB-UIRT Not Accepting Remote
Hi everyone!
I recently got a USB-UIRT for our school in hopes that we can configure Sage to control our DirecTV unit. However, I am running into some difficulty. This is a fresh installation of Windows XP, with the Sage PVR-350 Drivers installed, and SageTV V 4. I am at the point where I am supposed to teach the software the remote signals, but the instant I start, I get the message: "There was an error learning the remote control code. Please release the button on the remote control." However, I'm not pushing ANY buttons! As a result, when I press enter, it will just keep taking me to this message everytime. I am not able to progress. I know another customer is having the same problem here (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...ontrol+code%22) so I'm wondering if there's a known fix for this issue? Thanks! P.S. I can confirm that the latest drivers are installed for the USB-UIRT, version 1.4. There are no other applications installed on the computer, except SageTV. The computer's sole purpose is to record shows in the school. -Alan Hermon School District |

Additional Steps Taken:
1. Switched UIRT units (we have several for each school) and tried again. No success. 2. Removed the USB Extention cable. This seemed to help a little, it's not going to the error message every second now. It will now ask for me to press the 0 key, and about 10 seconds later, it will show the error. Technical information which may help: When it says to press 0, pressing anything on the remote doesn't cause the LED on the UIRT to light up. However, anytime I'm not at the programming screen, or I get the error, the LED works again, meaning I can hit a button on the remote, and it lights up. It's almost if the UIRT doesn't work when the Sage Software connects to it to receive data from it. 3. Installed the Girder software to verify that the remote itself works with the UIRT. I was able to program Girder with no problems with my DIRECTV remote in Girder, verifying that the Remote Control is compatible with the Girder. Also verifies that the UIRT is functioning. Therefore, there seems to be a problem with the UIRT and the Sage software. I'm not sure if there's anything I can change to make it work. Thanks! Alan |

If you have it plugged into a USB hub make sure it is a powered hub. Recommend you plug it into the USB port on the PC. Make sure when you teach it you hold the remote an inch or two away from the USB-UIRT.

Also: I don't know if this is still an issue, but if you are using service mode, try using non-service mode while setting up the USB-UIRT in SageTV.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's presently connected directly into the port. At first, I did use an extension cable, and removing that actually did help, but it still isn't working. I didn't however try using the remove from a few inches back, and I'll gladly try that today. -Alan |

I'm not using the service mode. It's set to launch full-screen after bootup. Thanks! |

Hey! It's working now!
You were correct. I wasn't holding the remote close enough to the receiver when I was programming it. It's now working great! Thank you again for your assistance! Alan |
