Anyone else having problems with latest purevideo?
Is anyone else getting the dreaded "unable to render the video portion..." or "unable to render audio..." messages using the .196 version of the nVidia Purevideo decoders?
This originally started for me w/Sage beta .6, I upgraded to beta .10 and no change. Changing video and sound renderers seems to have no effect. I can play DVD's and videos in Zoom player using the nVidia decoders just fine. Uninstalling the .196 purevideo decoders and going back to the .185 version corrects the problem, but it would be nice to be able to use the latest! System is a P4 3.0, 512 RAM, 6600 non-GT video card. Thanks! Eric

Im running the same version wiht no problem. Are you sure it was registered properly? Does you Nvidia Icon show up during playback in WMP?

Um... not sure what you mean by "registered" - the install went fine? It is a registered version, not a trial or anything.
Interestingly, the tray icon does *not* show up when I use WMP, even though the nvidia decoder shows as "preferred" when I run DECCHECK. Icon doesn't show when I'm running Sage either (which from what I read here is normal), but *does* appear when I use Zoom player. I should add that all the above is true regardless of which nvidia version I'm using.

I do get the Nvidia Icon in my system tray whenever I Play an MPEG/DVD within Sage. What are your Video Settings for Sage? I have mine set to default. I think you have to get it working in WMP before it will work in Sage.

That's because Sage likes you!
I haven't seen that icon since... I can't remember when... Sage version 2? And this is on two different machines, one of which I completely rebuilt about 3 weeks ago and has almost nothing on it software-wise. I've tried everything, including looking for registry settings mentioned in other threads that hide nVidia (setting was not turned on), no luck. In spite of the above, I *am* sure Sage is in fact using the nvidia decoder. I can tell this by process of elimination - if I select another decoder the errors do not occur.

If the tray icon doesn't appear when you're using windows media player then either it's not being used or you've got something wrong somewhere that's causing it to be hidden. |

(some) Success!
Well I still have no progress on the original issue, but have solved another issue which to me is even more important - the tray icon thing. Being able to make color/brightness/etc adjustments during playback is great!
On the machine I rebuilt 3 weeks ago, your suggestions worked perfectly - set decoder to default in Sage and set nVidia as preferred in DECCHECK. I thought I had tried this since I rebuilt the machine but apparently not - doh. Other machine put up a much better fight. I did all the above but still had no icon. So I fired up Zoom player, set it to use "standard media playback", and guess what, it did NOT use the nvidia decoder even though it was set as "preferred" in deccheck. Long story short, I went into radlight filter manager, located the filter Zoom *was* using (mpeg2dec), set it's merit to "normal", and everything got happy - nVidia was now the default both in Zoom and Sage. Now to see if I can get the .196 version to work...

If find it best to remove all of the fileter that you wont use. Sometimes if you system is clogged with a 'Decoder Pack' or alot of decoders I find that I nice clean system doesnt give as much trouble.

I am also having problems with the latest version of purevideo - Sage has issues time shifting and the screen would freeze for couple of seconds before moving on to where it should be. I switched to the Sage decoder and problem was solved.

Additional problem with nvidia decoder, latest version
I do have some new problems with the latest decoders version (196 I believe), but more of an audio issue. Using the Nvidia audio decoder, I get a strange static-y buzzing noise when listening to HD broadcasts. The audio also tends to cut out randomly, which never happened before. The only reason I'm staying with the nvidia audio decoder is that I can get surround sound (quasi) out of my speakers for HDTV broadcasts which I can't get using other decoders. "Quasi-" meaning I've discovered it only comes out of my rear left speaker. Totally bizarre.
The older version worked fine, except I couldn't quite get full screen to work with a low CPU utilization %. I'm debating which is worth more, the ~20-30% CPU utilization at full screen, or reliable sound! |
