Question Microsoft eHome IR receiver/transmitter

I have a microsoft IR receiver w/remote and IR blaster functionality that is included with HP Media Center PCs.

The drivers for the device are included with Windows XP
The device reports as:
a) Microsoft eHome Intrared Transceiver
b) Microsoft eHome Remote Consumer Controls

The unit is manufactured by Phillips. Microsoft refers to them as
"Freestyle" controls.

Programming details should be available from Microsoft.

Any possibility of getting this remote/ir transceiver working
with Sage?

You should be able to get it to work using Girder: www.girder.nl

The remote control works properly, but what I am really interested in being able to make work is the IR transceiver so
that I can control my digital cable box.

Is there some sort of plugin API for Sage that can be be used to develop addtional IR transceiver support?

I see. Girder can be used both for input and for output using
the girder plugin.

Now I just need to figure out how to make Girder talk to the
IR transceiver...

The plugin for it is listed as "MCE Remote Plugin" on this page: http://www.girder.nl/plugins.php. You can find a discussion about it here: http://www.girder.nl/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=21756#21756
