FEATURE REQUEST: Remove Padding when Conflict

I think there should be an option to remove padding when there's a schedule conflict. More than once now, I've missed a recording because all my favorites are scheduled with 2 minutes padding before and after. I like the 2 minute padding, however, when it comes to padding one show and losing the other show completely... I'd rather lose the padding and keep both shows.

- Josh

[EDIT]Just thought I would add that MeedioTV handles this with Soft/Hard padding. "Hard padding" settings always use the specified amount no matter what. "Soft padding" settings get used when they don't cause conflict.[/EDIT]

There is a feature in the detailed setup called remove padding on back to back recordings.

That only works for shows that air back-to-back on the same channel. I have a show scheduled to record from 6:58pm to 7:32pm on NBC and another scheduled to record from 7:28pm to 8:02pm on ABC. The padding on these shows conflict, so I would like a setting to bypass the padding if it's going to cause a conflict.

That only applies if the back to back favorites are on the same channel.

I agree. I actually mentioned this maybe 6 months ago. I loose all kinds of recordings because of this.

The conflict icon appears at the top of the screen when there is a conflict like this doesn't it? I don't use too much padding so I'm not sure.

If I set "Padding on B2B Favourites", and there are two on the same channel, will it always remove the padding or will it leave the padding if it can get the second on a different tuner?

Yes it does. But that will only do me any good if I'm home to see it before the recording time. And it's a huge hassle to resolve the conflict. You have to go into your favorites manager and taking the padding off of the conflicting recordings. And if you want the padding on those favorites, you'll have to go back in after the recording has completed to re-add it. It would be much simpler and save all kinds of hassle if Sage would just follow my suggestion.

I have the schedule lookahead set to 14 days. I see a conflict weeks before It becomes a problem. I like the hard and soft padding idea.

You can spot them a little earlier by setting your lookahead time from 3 days to 14, i.e. in sage.properties
scheduling_lookahead=12096000000

Sage don't advise it but it works well for me.

I agree this request should be actioned though. If I have B2B favourites with padding I want it to first check if either can be recorded on a different tuner and, if not, remove the padding and don't show the conflict.

It would be nice to be able to run a 14 day lookahead, but my old system even had trouble with a 3 day lookahead. It was a sempron 2500+, but the 200+ favorites would bring the scheduler to it knees. I had to drop the lookahead down to 2 days to keep it from choking on startup or during normal usage.

I just rebuilt it from scratch with a new sempron 3100+ and a new motherboard (gigabit NIC and firewire added), and 3 days is fine, maybe I'll bump it up a bit and test it out. But right now I need to confirm stability in the new build first.

It will always remove the padding. I have six tuners, and that's what mine does...

I have an AMD64 3200+, 14 days is no problem. I don't have that many favourites though, around 40.

Then I wouldn't use that setting, for me removing padding is a last resort.
