Create Video Thumbnails?

Anyone know of somekind of FREE software that can automatically create thumbnails of the video files. (imported Videos) I know Meedio has a plugin (video thumbnailer) and I tested it and it works fine, but I don't want to use meedio on my server.
Merci

A little birdie told me that this may appear in a future release of SageTV.

Seriously though, I did see it mentioned in another thread that it was either available in a testing mode, or would be soon. Can't recall.

I agree, something like this would be really nice for Sage as well.

Not exactly free, but recommended. Frameshots

It has a batch mode where you can queue up videos and designate how many shots you want at specified intervals. I use it for all my tv episodes, have it take 10 shots throughout the vid then save them at a dvd cover diminesions with a watermark of the shows titles.. its runs through the queue then I go through the directories and delete 9 out of the 10 keeping the one that best represents the episode to me. Kinda a bit of work, but gives em a polished presentation that I like.

On the other hand, free is good.

Okay, so I did some research, and found that there is an experimental setting (which I believe was added in the 4.1.7 beta). In your properties file, set the following value:

experimental_video_thumbnail_generation=true

Note that they stated that it is unsupported. Here's the info that was in that thread (under core updates):

Quote:
9. Added experimental unsupported property "experimental_video_thumbnail_generation". If set to true, then SageTV will automatically generate thumbnails for any video file when needed.
Worth looking into though...

I think the best way to support this is to allow you to select the frame within sage. I see it as an option available when you have paused playback. This way you just find the image you want to use, pause, option, create thumbnail. I'm sure one of the STV geniuses around here could whip it out in 10 minutes or so .

So I see the thumbnails generated by the experimental thing in the generated thumbnails folder but not in sage anywhere. Not even with the placeshifter. I don't know if there is a special view thats needed or what.

I don't really care for thumbnails for my sage recordings because they get deleted all the time, for me its mostly the video imports and maybe Archives.

FrameShots Batch FILE

I've been testing out FRAMESHOTS and within the program it works great making Thumbnails of my videos. It has a batch mode that works in the program. But I've been trying to get the command line option to work and I can't seem to get it.
I've created numerous Batch files but it won't do anything. Their HELP section is CRAP!!!

Has anyone used this before? I'd like to get this going and use it in DIRMON2.

This is the command line options. Can someone help me make a Bat file that would run through all the files in the current folder?

http://www.frame-shots.com/command.htm

Thanks

<Sorry I think I just figured it out. My Batch file creation skills are rusty>
