PlaybackException: ERROR (-5,0x80040256)

Anybody know why I keep getting this error message? Sage has become unusable until I can resolve this.

"There was a Playback Error in playback.
Details:
save.PlaybackException: ERROR (-5,0x80040256): There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content for playback."

When I cliek OK, it goes to a black screen.

I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV 150 card that usually doesn't give me any problem. It is working fine with the crummy WinTV program that came with it so I don't see this being a hardware problem.

Do you have any other audio encoders listed other than the one you currently have enabled?

re: ERROR (-5,0x80040256)

I'm sorry. How do I determine which audio encoders are running?

I have a diagnostic program that shows 16 audio compressors, 4 audio renderers, about 300 direct show filters, 2 midi renderers, about 25 video compressors.

When I have the program show all codecs and filters, 2 are highlighted as having problems:

ACM Base msacm.at3 ** Missing file: atrac3.acm
DSH YV12 Nero Digital AVC Video Enc {426F6A6F-FEF8-4A5B-8DDC-099E7499EF50} 0x00200000 ** File Missing:

If this means something to you, please let me know. I could also print the entire table of Codecs and Filters with this program if you think it would aid you in helping me with this. Let me know.

In Sage, go into Setup -> Detailed Setup, and then navigate to the Video/Audio option (it's titled something like that, I'm not at my system right now). In there, you'll see an option showing whatever the current audio encoder is. Select that option, and it will pop up a list of the encoders you have available to you.

Hi David,
I had same problem a while back and switching to another audio renderer fixed it as I recall. Like was mentioned, try the decoder or renderer, and I think one should fix it. In detailed setup go to audio/video and also change it in DVD.

at last

I tried the suggested changes to the renderer. It didn't fix it. But while I was there I played around with some other settings and believe it or not, what seems to have fixed it was changeing the AUDIO renderer to "Default".

Thanks for the help. It pointed me in the right direction.

Just did a new install and it was working ok but then I changed a few settings and got the error message.
I tried setting the audio render to Default and sure enough it fixed it.

regards

I received this error on a clean box with a new install of SAGE. Turns out I had not yet installed the audio drivers for my sound card. That resolved my issue.

When I connect locally with placeshifter I get this PlaybackExecption Error. From the same PC...if I connect through the internet back to my Sage box I have no problem. I don't have any problem from my MVP boxes.

Anyone have an idea of what might be going on here?

Thanks in advance.

Question sage.PlaybackException

hi - I started getting the same issue sage.PlaybackException about 6 weeks ago. I have rebuilt my sage server 3 times since it started. This time it lasted 4 weeks until last night when the issue is back to haunt me.

My sage server is a athon xp 3200, 1 x hauppauge mce500, 1 x hauppauge mce 150, xp pro, avg av. 2x300GB HDD and Geforce 6800 nvidia graphics card. My router is a DLINK wireless 54mb. SageTV v5.0.4 for both server and placeshifter - with java version that came with sage (updating to the latest version didn't fix it)

I get this issue if I run placeshifter on the local area network but if i run this on same pc away from home across the internet it works ok. I really don't want to have to rebuild my server again. - Is this a bug, if so what triggers it?

Any help appreciated. Thanks. Anne

I just had this same issue. Within my local network, placeshifter worked fine. But when I tried to run it from a different computer over the internet, I got the same playback exception error. I went into the placeshifter settings dialog and unchecked 'Enable video post processing', and then it worked fine. I'm guessing that the computer I'm running placeshifter on just wasn't at all up to the task of running the post processing. It only has a built-in Intel graphics controller. Hope this helps.

Aloha,
Mike

Update - Not sure if this relevant but, I discovered that on my system this problem is triggered the moment I share a folder used by sage and I am using placeshifter over the wireless link. If I use wired network, placeshifter works ok. Any ideas?

Thank you. You just help me fix a problem that had me beat for going on 6 hours. Did a full OS and Sage install of a client that been up and running for a year. Forgot all about the cheap $20 sound card drivers. Cleared the PlaybackException: ERROR (-5,0x80040256): right up.

D@mn, I will never get back them 6 hours
