HD Size for OS

Quote:
System requirements:
Intel Pentium 3 or AMD Athlon or faster processor
256 MB of RAM
Internet connection
Supported network hardware (most network cards)
TV Tuner card: Hauppauge PVR150 (supports IR blaster), PVR250, PVR350 (encoder only) or PVR500 card (multiple cards supported)
The thing missing from the Linux requirements is the size if HD required for just the OS. I would like to install the OS on one smaller HD and then have the recordings go to seperate larger drives. Just need to know how small/big the OS HD needs to be.

8GB for / and swap would be plenty
Something like this is very workable
100 MB /boot
1000 MB for Swap
The rest of /dev/hda for /
Then /dev/hd? as /video
or setup a LVM for /video, need more /video drive space, add another drive to the LVM.

I Typically use 20 GB drives as for my /dev/hda, bassically because thats what I have laying around, and because new enough not to be crap, and old enough not to be huge.
But if you go the LVM route, you could set up the /dev/hda on big drive , say 200 GB ,like this
100 MB /boot
1000MB swap
8000MB /
the rest as an LVM, and then still have the abillity to expand the LVM and not waste a IDE channel, whether it be a PATA or SATA.
BTW LVM is not RAID.
