Unstable after TV change
I hooked up a new Panasonic 50" plasma TV to my SageTV client (4.1.3) and now it is highly unstable. At first I was getting consistent "problem rendering video portion of playback" errors whenever I tried to play anything. After trying different video renderers and switching between Overlay/VMR9, I finally got it to at least play using VMR9 with the SageTV video decoder. However, it often crashes with an unhandled exception and when I go from windowed to full screen it completely bombs out. I have a GeForce 5700 connected to the TV via s-video.
Anyone know why simply putting a different TV on the s-video out would cause all these problems? Doesn't seem like SageTV should care about that. Matt

not sure but why are you using s-video? Does the Panny have either VGA, DVI or HDMI? Is this a commercial or consumer version? When I still had a full client i found the best results were either straight DVI to DVI or a DVI to HDMI converter....
Also--does this happen when you run any other applications on the Plasma? Media Player? JUC

I'm running s-video because the TV has only one HDMI input (no DVI or VGA) and that's currently being used by my DirecTV HD receiver. However, I'm thinking about switching that to component vid and using a DVI-to-HDMI cable to connect the SageTV to the TV if that will fix my crashing problems.
NVDVD plays DVDs fine on my SageTV client. Only SageTV seems to have problems. Do you think I will get as good a picture off of the DirecTV HD receiver using component video as I get with HDMI? The HD content looks great over HDMI and I don't want to lose that.

OK I switched SageTV to use DVI-to-HDMI to the TV and everything seems to be working better. In fact Windows discovered the TV via PnP (I think) and figured out the resolutions and everything which was cool. I still don't think the picture quality is good though. I have SageTV's default recording quality set to Best, so you'd think everything would look good, but I see a lot of pixelation, especially at the very top and bottom of the screen. The recordings are coming off of two DirecTV D11 receivers via S-video. Anyone have any ideas?

If windows is discovering the TV via PnP then it's possible that either the windows drivers for the TV have bugs in them or they are conflicting with Sage. Perhaps you can go into your device manager - find those TV drivers and disable them. Also - check the TV manufacturers website for driver updates as well and find out why they have drivers. It could be simply like a VGA adapter has drivers but perhaps you can find a windows standard or updated video drivers for that TV.
