Installation - COM ports

Hello - when installing a new source if I want to use DirecTv serial to change the channel, Sage allows me to select COM1-COM4 and then continues. I can also select OTHER and enter the number of the COM port. But, when I select other and enter a number it does not continue to the next screen. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks,
Mike

You aren't doing anything wrong -- I see a problem with the STV continuing at that point & it will get fixed.

Okay - a few other things - I couldn't figure out where the details are for each minor release like 4.1.7, 4.1.8, 4.1.9, etc. I looked in the manual but it only listed a few major things. I'm guessing it's on the website somewhere.

Also - I'm assuming one only needs to enter the number of the com port such as 8, 9, 10 or 11, etc and not COM10 or COM11 when clicking OTHER.

One more thing - I could not figure out how to re-select the COM port or select a different one without removing the source and adding it back.

Thanks again - I've almost got my server all set up and things are getting exciting.

(Are you using a beta now?) Anyway, the beta forum has a progress report sticky that lists all the previous recent betas, where you can see all the release notes. (That probably answers any questions about why in the world I kept making those posts...)

Yeah, just the number.

There should be an option near the bottom of the Source Details screen... but it will have the same problem when selecting 'Other' at the moment. Can you use a lower com port number for now?

Oh -- After configuring it, close SageTV & the server, then look for the mmc/encoders/<something>/<#>/<#>/tuning_plugin_port properties in your properties file. There may be a tuning_plugin line right above one that says something about DirecTV (I'm not sure, since I don't have DirecTV). Try setting the correct port there. Save a copy of your properties file in case something gets messed up.

There is an option but it skips right past the section to configure the com port. So, on initial install of a new source you get to that screen but if you want to change the com port then it does not allow you to (it goes right to the following screen). You have to remove the source and re-add it again. So, I'm thinking it is a possible bug.

I can use a lower com port for now. But, did you say I could change the com port in my properties file if I wanted to?

Thanks again,
Mike

Are we talking about the same place? There shouldn't be any 'following screen' when changing it on the Source Details screen -- at the bottom, there should be a button named "Tuner Control: <blah blah blah>" For DirecTV, all that should do is pop up the COM port selection dialog... where you can successfully choose only 1-4 right now.

I meant that you could try doing so. I can't promise how that part works, but check the info I posted above.

Right but it says Tuner Control: N/A and I cannot click on it. In the initial setup after I select Composite (or svideo or tuner) then NEXT screen says "Use External Cable or Satellite" or "Don't Configure Tuning" This is the screen I cannot get back to. If I select "Don't Configure Tuning" then later after the source is added I can select Tuner but it forces me to use an IR and I cannot select a com port (without removing and adding the source back).

Thanks,
Mike

Oh -- right. I forgot that since you couldn't get the 'Other' port selected, you probably couldn't configure the DirecTV Serial option at all... so there is no port to change in Source Details. I'll have to go through all those screens for DirecTV... and in the meantime, if you can reconfigure using a lower COM port, that would have to be the solution for now, I think. (Unless I'm still missing something about what you are saying.)

BTW: what version is this for?

It's not major since I can always just remove the source and add it back. Also, I can just reconfigure the com ports from their defaults (no problem there either). I currently have Sage 4.1.4 installed. I will upgrade everything to the latest version once I have my server and clients up and running. I still have everything in development and test modes. (added->) by the way - it's no problem for me to get the DirecTv com ports going because I'll just move the com ports down.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks again,
Mike
