Stupid questions about STVs

I was looking at the various STVs available, namely SageMC and Meekell, and I need a little clarification on what STVs do.

Do STV serve primarily as "skins" or do they fully reconfigure menus and options available in the GUI? Are the various plugins (like the Winamp plugin) still usable in all STVs?

The reason I ask is that I'm still in the setup phase of my Sage box, and it seems to me that if you use one of the STVs, a lot of the Setup and Detailed Setup configuration stuff would not be available. (For instance, I installed the SageMC STV the other day, and the Setup menu wasn't even functional) Is that right? If so, how does one go about reconfiguring Sage at a later date?

An STV is more than just a skin. The Sage software itself does not define any menus, or indeed any UI at all. Everything you see on screen (other than actual video playback) comes from the STV. That includes menu definitions, screen layouts, how you get from one screen to another, and so on.

Whether or not an add-on works in any given STV depends on how closely that STV resembles the default STV. A brand-new custom STV built from the ground up will most likely not accept any of the common add-ons.

Even if your custom STV doesn't include any configuration screens, you can still can get back the default STV at any time by using Studio to load it or by editing your Sage.properties file. You can then use the default STV to make any necessary configuration changes to your tuner setup, favorites list, or what have you, and reload your custom STV when you're done.

If you mean "Detailed Setup" then that should not be the case. I have been using sageMC16x9 since sage V2 and the setup has worked fine. Something must have gone wrong during install (of the stv) if this is not working. I once had an install go south on me but it has been so long since it happened I cant quite remember how I fixed it. You may want to just try re-installing the stv and see if that gets it right for you. You may also want to search the Sage MC16x9 thread for help on that. Setup definitely should work.

HTH.

Jesse
