So, I notice that when hooked up to my TV my Sage system audio has an audio buzz that constantly humms ...
The audio is connected from the PC via 3.5mm sound card to R/W RCA. When disconnected it stops, but when plugged it, it happens again. I notice that if I leave it plugged in but disconnect the coax cable it stops. Any thoughts? BTW ... there is not cable box and the cable is split once. Thanks, T. EDIT: BTW ... It's a low volume humm, but consistant ... Increasing the volume on the TV usually overpowers it, but could be annoying on low speaking ot quiet parts of a show. Sounds like interference to me. Those 3.5 mm plugs to RCA cables are generally not shielded well and if you are using a poor coax cable such as an RG59 (or worse) it could be causing the problem. It seems kind of strange that when you disconnect the coax cable, it has no problem. I used to get a lot of low hum from a cheap 3.5 mm plug to rca cable that went from my comp to a cheap set of pc speakers.....it was really annoying. I replaced the cable and that helped immensely (with a much better one of course). This is just my two cents worth. What are you using for a sound card? Crappy onboard sound or a crappy sound card also tends to augment issues.

I'd have to hear the noise but it sounds like you have a ground loop problem thats causing the buzz.

I'm not clear on whether the hum is coming from your PC speakers or from your TV, but in either case it sounds like something's not grounded properly.
Try plugging both the PC and the TV into the same plug strip. If the TV plug isn't polarized, try reversing it. Most cable splitters come in a metal housing with a grounding screw; try connecting a wire from that to your PC chassis. Also make sure none of your audio or coax cables are running parallel to your power cords. Keep them well separated and if they must cross, try to do it at right angles.

I'll let you know what I come up with ... Thanks again, T. |
