Stuck on Please Wait

I installed 4.1.8 last night on my server. When I try to use PlaceShifter over the internet at work, it goes into the Please Wait screen and just sits there. PlaceShifter works fine over the lan.
I tried to test placeshifter on a pc on the lan using the internet ip address and the sage screen comes up and dissapears suddenly.

On a DVB-T system, I'm still getting no sound on some channel changes. Should I use the 'qian' downloads or are this incorportated into 4.18?

Regards,
Ben

You ought to check out Cygwin's SSH Server. Run the SSH server over whatever port, then tunnel apps through it.
I have that, and can to that, but I don't want to add any more overhead to a video stream than I have to.

Ok streaming has definately improved for me. Before I had to set the speed otherwise the client would be all over the place. Now it adjusts acordingly and so far everything is working very well. I'm at work connecting back to my network via vpn, that way I don't have to open any ports on my firewall.

Rolled back to 4.1.7 and it works just fine. Upgrade to 4.1.8, even DL'ed a new copy, and it'll hang. check the logs and it stopped scanning on an .mpg file. SO, I'm back to 4.1.7 for now.
Can you please enable debug logging with debug_logging=TRUE and then send your sagetv_0.txt log file for 4.1.8 to betatest at sagetv.com

Thanks.

Did you upgrade your Placeshifter clients too? It sounds like you're using the old client with the new server and one of them is running Java 1.4. (which works fine in the latest version)

Music playback doesn't work yet in the Placeshifter. This'll be fixed for the next build. We'll also make the ports configurable.

Dynamic streaming is definitely improved, doesn't seem to be stuttering like before. But a couple of issues (using 4.1.8 & the 2/23 dated placeshifter client), I've gotten these on two different computers:

1. Using latest java 1.5.0.6, I have trouble with using locator ID. On the server list, it says "locator failed to find server," and if I try to connect, the I/O error message is "error looking up address of:Java.net.ConnectException: connection refused: connect"

I double checked the locator ID and it's correct. I have a dyndns address so I could connect using that with no problem.

2. If I quit the app while a video is playing, the last played sound will loop until I kill the process of mplayer. One time I had to reboot the computer to get it to stop. Obviously, for now, I just have to make sure to stop the video before quiting.

I have the same issue using java 1.4.2_10. I see the "locator failed to find server" message. But, I can connect using my dyndns address with no problem.

Also, I can connect from work over the internet with no trouble, but my wife, using the 4.1.8 client, gets the following error in the Placeshifter log (when starting placeshifter from a command prompt):

Logs sent. I made sure that I saved some logs while I was messing around with 4.1.8.

spacecadet,

Can you post the server logs (or send them to betatest at sagetv.com) that correspond to the Placeshifter client failure? The error is occuring on the server side.

No problem. I will send them to the betatest address later today.

Thanks.

Logs have been sent. It looks like the problem is related to the java version. Here is the error I am seeing in the Sage log:

Fri 2/24 13:58:28.193 Error w/ MiniUI socket of:java.io.IOException: Error establishing secure MiniClient link:java.security.NoSuchAlgorithmException: Cannot find any provider supporting RSA/ECB/PKCS1Padding
Fri 2/24 13:58:28.195 Exception in the MiniUIClientReceiver of: java.net.SocketException: socket closed

The Sage TV Server is running 1.4.2_09
At work, I am running 1.4.2_10 and I can connect with no problem.
My wife is running 1.5.0_04 and she gets the error indicated above.

Thanks! Great job on this so far! Out of curiosity - why can't imported videos that are in VOB format play through the place shifter? Is this a copyright or technical issue?

Just wanted to say this is AWESOME! PlaceShifting is too cool.

On this release, I am still having some performance issues on the PS client when using Dynamic. It is much better but still a lot of stuttering for me. If I manually set it to 270 it works almost flawlessly without stutter.

Wow, PlaceShifting is really improved. I'm running this through SSH right now and there is no stuttering in this release. I can't wait until I can change the port and try and run this through our evil firewall at work. Otherwise, an HTTP proxy config would be the next best thing.

carsh bug

Some HD tuner crash or stuttering is probably related to a MSFT’s bug, please check
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896626.

1:26:44 bug is still alive in client end, it’ll be killed soon.
